Intel never told how much transistor both Ice Lake (~130mm²) and Tiger Lake (~146mm²) packs, so nobody knows for sure it's transistor density.

Anonymous, 12 May 2021There is not a normed standard for node naming schemes in t... moreTrue. Also true, the heat output when under load of the AMD 7nm CPUs is far bellow Intel's 10nm CPUs, and they achieve that while still outperforming the Intel CPU in raw computational power.

Transistor density is great for lower cost and shareholders profit (i.e., uses less wafer surface), else transistor size alone will deliver the usual expected advantages of a die shrink (i.e., lower heat output and power consumption). Are the Intel CPUs any cheaper or is the better 10nm process just great for their shareholders? The original question remains unanswered, why buy the cheaper and underperforming product at a steeper price? Are you an Intel shareholder?
