My first cellphone with bluetooth, also had Infrared. It was a Nokia E71.

Bluetooth data transfer basically why I still prefer Android over iOS. I still use it to transfer photos, videos, and songs.

Android fan forever. I was on iPhone three years earlier (2008) but used Android for a primary for like 9 to 10 years while iOS was only 3. I'll probably get whatever is the next Pixel in 2 or 3 years if they're still around. I do love my iPhone 12 mini but I wouldn't really put it above my Essential Phone. But I do love the convenience of wireless charging that my Essential Phone lacks.

Ah yes, the olden days of my personal Bluetooth headphone ownership where I would have to recharge them for like every 12 hours and suffering some latency lag. Now that I have an LG V50 and keeps playing with the built-in Quad DAC, I ended up selling every single Bluetooth audio peripherals and gone wired. Put it simply, I don't miss them anymore. I might miss the no-wire portability when jogging, but I even seem to forget that since I'm now doing the workout in the gym only.

Nowadays, THE ONLY time I use Bluetooth from my phone is when I'm connecting my phone to my car, that's it. Other than that, no chance.

Huh, 17 May 2021Already available? On what phone, phones? Mentioning Apple... moreSome phones i know that support LDAC are:

              Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro

              Google Pixel 3
              Samsung S9+
              LG V60 ThinQ
              OnePlus 6T
              Razer Phone 2
              Huawei Mate 20 Pro
              Sony Xperia XZ3

such a simple solution come to think of it

but still bad thing if something as simple as direct file transfer needs such a dumb workaround

My first bluetooth enabled phone was my Nokia 6230, which was also my first phone with expandable memory. I still use bluetooth for file transferring very often, that's one of the reasons why I really can't use an iPhone as a daily driver. Such a basic feature should be on a smartphone nevertheless.

Believe BT is not free but owned by a SIG (Special Interest Group) that sell licenses for use of BT. A cost that some companies may chose to avoid by choosing a different tech.
