The smaller image processing chip is the key to the slimmer notch.

Sony actually has a working 3D face-scanning technology comparable to FaceID, but due to the disunity in the Android world no Android phone has it.

So Android phones get smaller notches, hole punches or big bezels. And Android fans mock the notch. Sad!

You can't base use case of few of us geeks who tinker with our phones daily to billions of users who know nothing about special abilities of Android and it being more customizable and just use its most basic features it offers. Hell, most don't even know how to enable or disable display of percentage on the battery and it's in basically every phone now. Because they just don't care. Same reason why so many people use iPhones and iOS. They just don't care. It works as a phone, irt can run whatever apps they need or want and that's that.

Anonymous, 17 May 2021you mean the tech that huawei had for 2 years already witho... moreYou mean the tech Apple had for 4 years? iPhone X, first phone with FaceID was released in 2017. Reasons why they didn't also include fingerprint scanner are unknown. One of them being no real estate on the front end of phone to put fingerprint scanner (underdisplay didn't exist yet back then afaik) and they maybe didn't feel like putting it on the back or side of the phone. Which I can understand because I hate fingerprint scanners on the back. Side is passable, but I can see why Apple didn't feel like having it on the side either.

[deleted post]"Very old technology" Was first to run state of the art 5nm chipset that's designed in-house and usually entire generation ahead of Snapdragon chipsets when it comes to performance. Oh right, you people here only measure everything in who has more megapixels, who has more RAM and who sticks more pointless pixels into a display... Got it.
