The smaller image processing chip is the key to the slimmer notch.

Like I said, no one is pretending there isn't one and then secretly placing one underneath. EVERYONE knows it's there whether you see it or not. If that somehow changes your behavior, then I don't know, you're weird?

A separate charging cable to carry every time besides the lightning dongle. I actually like Apple devices, but for god's sake, start using a type c and everything would be a lot better for charging and accessories in general.

Exactly how people spit on the ultrasonic FPS after Samsung poorly implemented it with the Note/S 10/20 which prevented this amazing tech from getting more mainstream, and now Samsung proved that the tech, if properly implemented, is much better than the optical one, and it isn't even using a quarter of its capabilities yet.

[deleted post]True, that's hilarious as the main point of Android against iOS was how diverse and customizable it is.
Now every phone looks the same, and by offering multiple size variant, including one with a bezel, technically, by percentage, Apple now offer more diversity than the whole Android market where very little phones deviate from the 50% punch holes, 50% teardrop notch, 50% chances curved edges on high end, same features, 50 bazillion Mp main camera, 3 pixel Ultra-Wide and 0.1 nanopixel Macro and Depth, between 6.5" and 7", etc...

But people who complain at any non trending innovation also complain about people complaining there is nothing beside that, so, it isn't about to change...
I am sure we could trace back, in both software and hardware, the loss of diversity as a reversed proportional quantity to people complaining about non hyped/trending features and people's proposal or availability complaints.

All that because people don't want that there is a SINGLE phone outside what they personally want in the market...

Anonymous, 15 May 2021The argument about privacy with under display cameras is a ... moreWhat is lame is people not understanding that not seeing the camera lets people act as if there were no camera at all, doing privacy (both private life and personal data related) dangerous things.
A false sense of security is worse than no security at all.

Not only that but underdisplay camera are the last step before there is no coming back and taking a definitive hit on front camera privacy.
There are alternatives, the one I linked :
                      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irH3f09iktQ
Bezel (allow to hide it), pop up camera, no front camera.
I would be totally fine with underdisplay camera if it was just ONE design, but people want to push it to be on ALL devices, and THIS is the issue.
Also, technically the optical underdisplay fingerprint scanner is a camera hidden under the display, and it can be used to spy on users, which is one of the many reasons ultrasonic ones are much better (but mainly they are much more secure, fast and accurate), yet they don't tell you about it.

How is different if selfie cam is visible and if it's under display? It's still there either way and you can't physically block it other than taping a sticky tape over it. Another thing would be if they advertised phones as "no camera in front" and then have one hidden under display. But no one is making such claims or even implying such a thing. We all know phones have selfie cams, whether we even use one or not.

Best underdisplay camera : Privacy, quality, cost less, no display quality issues, simple and effective solution, 100% compatible with 3D face recognition.

Regular "see through the display" camera are a privacy nightmare that give poor quality, cost a lot, have display quality issues, is stupid hard to do for little result and will have troubles with 3D face recognition tech.

On the side though it would clash with the user's hand.

If properly done, the lasers of the Structured Light can also serve as a regular ToF based LiDAR by simply reading the dot position over their timing for face recognition, using modulated ToF for distance, and hybrid of both for close range giving amazing LiDAR capabilities much greater than the iPhone.
And in the future, the second display on the back will be replaced by a long range direct virtual retinal projection, giving Iron Man's interface capabilities.
And the great thing is that it require accurate eye tracking that can easily double as an additional eye/iris scanner.
