No one wants a hole punch camera on their screen in 2021. Terrible design.

To expensive to compete with s21 ultra, anyways looks like a Samsung front panel on this one, probably that's the reason the price is that high!
        _ i don't see any real s21 ultra concurent because :
        - speakers quality?
        - haptic engine
        - 3 x software inside
        - pictures quality
        - no pen support
I'm wondering when they will learn and bring something to the market to really compete with Samsung
Ok it's charge faster but can save that battery for one full day like p30 pro?

Anonymous, 20 May 2021Qualcomm took 7 years to go from 4K to 8K, you expect 16K f... moreHe, he, read the spec sheet and do the calculations. That's how ZTE did the first 8k before (and GoPro did it with the first 4k) they merely divided the puny compressed datarate over more pixels at lower frame rate. Qualcomm can do it. High end phone chipsets normally concentrate silicon to other things, but the extra datarate codec shouldn't take up too much room. They will know Samsung is releasing this, and I suspect a 16k chipset, and Qualcomm will upgrade to be a second chip source. The question is, is it this year, or next year?

These imaginary time lines you talk about, are artificial. The industry decides when to launch to make a new profit phase once growth slows down from the last phase. There has been 8k TV shown off since decade before last. Actually, NVIDIA had announced 8k support around 2007, but the industry put it's foot down, and they scrapped it. I says useful for 180 degree filming, like VR filming, or action sports, where you can just select from the frame with a 4-8 K window, what to show in your reel after filming. Did I say 16k normal video? So, put away your 16k led screen. But, I have been thinking about contacting a projection chip manufacturer to do a crowd funded16k pocket projector development, as there is a commercial need in a few different products. But the phone has nothing to do with that. But cheaper 16k screens would be coming, so, whatever you film today, could find a home. The thing is, the pro industry is moving towards 16k and 32k (seriously) for higher quality 8k delivery through downsizing the image, getting rid of a number of Bayer color filter sensor quirks. As they do with 8k sensors delivering 4k footage today.

So, where is the vanilla after All?!

For a second i thought this was an updated version of the Note20Ultra, all that's missing is an Spen!

notafanboy, 20 May 2021In my opinion it's time to move on from 8MP periscope ... moreProblem is size of the module.
The 12-13MP are much larger than 8MP.
                                More than 50% larger.

As they decrease FOV from 120 to 250, they need to reduce sensor size.
It is all about space available.

Also, Sharp R6 has proven that with 1" main camera, there is no space enough for more rear cameras.
Soon phones are gonna drop ultra wide and 2x/3x/4x/5x/10x cameras and focus on digital zoom.
Like the upcoming 1" sensors from Samsung with 200, 300 and 600MP.

The old 686 sensor. An actual 200mp Samsung sensor model with 16k (up to maybe15fps with current 888 but if the enhanced 888 is improved, or the next Samsung chipset can, then a video rate might be possible. Good 180 degree filming). But, for the rest of us, 15 fps is good for burst photography.
