Android--Master, 31 May 2021The reason they introduce features late has everything to d... moreA lot of the reason is that however, the sheer quantity Apple demands of such components place a lot of strain on the supplier to expand production to fulfil all of their contractual obligations to existing partners. Apple demands something like immediately 100-120 million screens, to a certain high spec and design. That's not easy to just turn around. Early high refresh screens had low yields in quality assurance and some made headlines for the green tint (like BOE) as an example. Apple does want to add screen gate to antenna gate etc. It is really damaging to a brand and anything out of the slightest gets jumped on in the media when it comes to Apple. Say what you want, but people love to hate Apple.

Anonymous, 31 May 2021LG and BOE don't have the capacity to make that many o... moreI mean you say that and it is, currently as things stand, true. However, Apple has shown, by their purchase of Intel's previous modem business operations, that they are willing to buy out specialists within their field and internalise everything to their own standards. Whilst they may not buy out Samsung screen operations, there's a chance if Apple decides to, for them to make their own supply of screen internally. Samsung needs and wants Apple equally as much as Apple does to Samsung.

YUKI93, 02 Jun 2021I'm with you. For someone like me who loves to do mobi... morebattery endurance king was iphone11pro max.but,s21 ultra outperformed it even with higher resolution and higher refresh rate.that is real deal.besides,no small android phone could reach 90h+ endurance and vanilla s21 did it. these results will probably be the new average in 2022, because 5G networks become more common and it definitely draws more power from the phones.

yalim, 01 Jun 2021I don't understand this 120hz hype. I fell like it... moreThings aren't even smoother at 120Hz, it's the perception of it because the image in motion is sharper compared to 60Hz. So, what you're essentially gaining is sharper animations during transition. Which, if you aren't a gamer, it's better to go with Apple's approach of making sure chipsets are always capable of perfectly executing animations and you time those animations so perfectly that you get perception of flawless motion. Who cares if menu in motion is smoother because it looks sharper during scrolling. Same for web browsing where you scroll. In either case you can't use display while it's in motion. Which makes it pointless feature that just wastes power for that 5% better visual perception. Only place where this becomes an exception is gaming where sharper image during motion helps because seeing things clearer during motion does indeed help you and it's not a static timed animation but real-time event that's never predictable. And you are using the information while doing it.
So, as far as I'm concerned, if phone can make menu scrolling smooth without exception (meaning it will never ever twitch or stutter during scroll) I'm fine with 60Hz. I'd only be fine with it if use of higher refresh meant no change in battery use. Then fine, smack it in. But we all know it's always more taxing on battery. Or in case if you're a mobile gamer. In which case I'd suggest a phone that has high refresh but modest resolution. All vendors use insane resolutions and then you can't possibly get framerate anywhere near the refresh, making it pointless even where it's suppose to be the most usable feature. It's like having 4K 240Hz monitor hooked on a RTX 3060 and expecting to make any use of those 240Hz. You just can't because graphics can't process so many pixes at such speed.

yalim, 01 Jun 2021I don't understand this 120hz hype. I fell like it... moreI'm with you. For someone like me who loves to do mobile gaming, the 120Hz screen refresh rate definitely makes a complete difference compared to the normal 60Hz. But outside of mobile gaming, I absolutely see zero benefits of it. I absolutely see no reason at all for having to use more battery juice just to have a smoother scrolling effect. I'd be more than happy to trade aesthetics feel for longer battery life. That is why I always keep the screen at 60Hz all the time except during gaming.
But credit where it's due, at least Samsung has shown that it is possible to have a high-resolution screen with a high screen refresh rate without losing too much battery life. To this day, I see no phone with a QHD+ 120Hz screen that can even match the battery endurance rating of the S21 Ultra 5G. Just imagine how much the battery endurance rating can be gained if the screen resolution is set to FHD+, 120 to 130 hours could be an easy reach.

yalim, 01 Jun 2021I don't understand this 120hz hype. I fell like it... moreI don't know about others, but 120Hz on my OnePlus 9 Pro honestly makes a massive difference for me, it just makes my phone feel so much more responsive and fast, and when I go back to a 60Hz screen, it just feels sharp-edged and jagged, like the phone can't keep up with itself, when in fact its just the refresh rate of the screen.

I NEVER even read articles concerning Apple products until June 2020 when I bought the iPhone 11 Pro Max. I'm happy having an Apple Watch now permits one to unlock one's iPhone while wearing a face mask using Face ID. (Apple, as per norm, want to make money out of that issue too ☹️)

I don't understand this 120hz hype. I fell like it's just a gimmick. I cannot see a difference between 60hz and 120hz. I don't play games. Maybe it is important for players only. In fact, 60hz gives me extra 1 hour screen on time. So, I keep it off in my S21. It is as smooth as 120hz setting actually.
