Canalys: smartphone shipments will grow in 2021, 5G models will beat 4G-only phones next year

14 June 2021
The component shortage is now the bottleneck to how many smartphones will be shipped this year, not the pandemic (like it was last year).

I use Redmi Note 5 AI. I use phone for daily purpose and photography. Not much gaming. My Note 5AI is now 2.5 years old. At this same price still there is no significant advancement in technology. I will use this phone untill at the same price I get worthy update.

I don't think I'm getting another phone in 5 years. Of course, I always say this but then end up upgrading after 2. The phone I really want is actually the Motorola Razr. Either version. But it doesn't have wireless charging which is a deal breaker for me.

Every new phone I get must have wireless charging. Only my Nexus 5, Pixel 3, and iPhone 12 mini have this. Life is much easier without wires. Well, in charging. Not necessarily with headphones. I still use wired headphones as it doesn't kill battery as fast as wireless ones.

I'm actually totally fine using LTE only on my iPhone 12 mini. I really see no difference between 4G and 5G except the latter eats up battery faster. We've reached a point with mobile phones where it's a once every 5 years upgrade. It's similar to laptops. And video game consoles used to be 5 years but can now stretch to 7 to 8 years.

Many locations , the 5G is not available already.
And even 4G is not good. Speed between 8-12Mbps and poor signal.
The way HMD does, keeps you from using 3G.
            No internet.

Adul Al Salami Kebab, 14 Jun 2021That only helps when it searches and to be fair most of the... moreNokia can lock it to only 1 bandwidth. It won't search for anything else.

But the rest of the brands will always be searching for all active bandwidths, if you want to use the latest bandwidth technology.

Of course you just won't have connection if there's no 4g/5g available .

5G is useless, unstable, battery-draining and costs more than 4G

Yet still only 1 brand has the option of using 4g or 5g only, while the rest still needs to have 2g/3g/4g/5g turned on, only to use 4g or 5g bandwidth.

The battery saving crown once again goes to Nokia.
