I have no problem with plastic back side or smaller screen, especially when is still possible to buy model with bigger screen. But i feel Sumsung s cutting corners to reduce production costs, but final customer price will be higher even actual models. And that's just bad play from Samsung.

[deleted post]As a Samsung user, I totally disagree. My old Sony phone, 8 years old never seen a case, I've dropped it numerous times, still working flawless and it is never broke. My Samsung flagship phone on the other hand has had a flip case from day one. Dropped it once, display is broken now. The updates are slow af on Samsung as well and I've bought my phone from the Samsung store (unlocked).
Maybe you don't like Sony (I really don't care), but having a metal frame instead of a plastic one is VERY IMPORTANT! That is one of the factors that makes a phone a flagship!
I'm not cheap, but why should I spend so much money on basically a midrange phone when I can get A LOT better specifications (from all point of view) from Sony's high-end flagship?
I'm a Samsung user and fan, but the last 2 lineups are really making me go for a different brand. I'd rather have a pen and a paper than a chinese brand btw.
So my only option left is Sony: Snapdragon 888 + 3.5mm jack + SD card slot + no silly hole in the display + 4K display + stereo speakers + side mounted fingerprint scanner =WINNER! (NO COMPROMISES whatsoever)!

AnonD-1003038, 15 Jun 2021Instead of going the opposite direction and giving glass ba... moreYup. It doesn't make that much sense. Question is how much more expensive it is to have it with metal or glass. Or just put metal on the lower end S model and remove wireless charging cos not like having plastic back only, they give everything else what the ultra has. So if one is paying for the S or S Plus model, i think they are better off buying the flagship from Xiaomi like the Mi 11 Ultra.

AlienKiss , 15 Jun 2021That's it! I'm going back to Sony! First it was ... moreI switched from sony to samsung 3 years ago. I was happy with both. xperia 1 III's price should be between s21+ and ultra. unfortunately, sony left some international markets including mine. they were not offering the best cameras for some time (including x1 II) but I hope they make it right in 2021 serie. they also need to shorten the delays of announcements and product launches.

Owning S10 I can't believe what every year Samsung is doing now with galaxy range... Someone said it right below, they are just losing it...

First it was ... moreI don't dare to buy Sony after all the horror stories by my friends and even they even gave them a 2nd chance but still, they were problematic and after switching to Samsung, they were much happier even though Samsung phones had rather bad battery life back then. It's not about them being unlucky cos one of my friend had to go back to the service center twice to get the same problem fixed, which came back not long after and in the end she gave up.

Instead of going the opposite direction and giving glass back to vanilla model, they are doing even more stingy removing it from Plus model too. What's next, S23 Ultra coming with plastic back? This is ridiculous and reason I'm just not going to even bother with their highest end S line. Plastic back on a 800+ € phone is absurd and shouldn't be a thing, no matter how some like to justify it with "muh plastic is sometimes actually better than glass". I don't care, phones with such price tag should be all glass and metal. They are cheaping out on materials in dumbest possible way and only reason they are doing this is to increase profits and it's painfully obvious. Make plastic backs on A series, I don't care, they always cost much less you kinda expect it. But on S series it's just unforgivable.

I wish this news was a lie, but it will come true..

Anonymous, 15 Jun 2021Like it matters as the buyers will all cover them with ugly... moreSpeak for yourself. Not everyone puts on a case. I've used a bazillion smartphones, and never put on a case on any of them. Everyone in my family doesn't put them on either.

Besides, they need to use only premium build materials on flagships, otherwise they're conning the customers. End of story.

My 230$ phone had a glass back, metal frames, 256GB rom, SD card and 3.5mm jack and a 7nm TSMC processor.

Samsung has lost the plot. No wonder people are switching to Chinese brands at a rapid pace.

I hope they get back to their senses before it's too late, otherwise they'll be the next Nokia.

First it was the 3.5mm jack, then the SD card slot, then there's no charger in the box, now the frame is plastic!
All 4 of those very important features (at least for me) are present in Sony's Xperia I III.
How is Samsung any better than those cheap garbage brands now?!
                                        Definitely I'm buying the Sony!
