The Moto Razr was once the hottest selling phone in the world, but in only a few years flip phones were all but dead. Until recently.

I have a 2007 razr motorola in mint condition. Been stored in a suitcase since 2009.

Flip phones are back as Michael Fisher said.

Loving my Flip 3 and Razr 5G together. Will play GameCube on my Flip 3 in Flex while the Razr 5G plays The Wonder Years from the cover display right next to it.

I'd really love to have a small screen android phone to be able to somehow run apps i need (even if inferior user experience), have mechanical dial buttons and still have it foldable. I'd love that, i don't need z fold with big touch screen.

Modern brick phones are very boring, to the point i don't want any.

Was searching for such phone the other day, got nothing.

Motorola StarTac was my favorite, for the cost of them today, they should have holographic 4D screens in a dual sided flip with one side being phone keypad, The other with a mini qwerty keyboard and holo-screen 12K with subsonic audio that your body just hears and feels.. Oh and should have a "beam me up, Scotty, button" too🤯🔫🤳🏼

Before modern enthusiast phones Japanese flip phones were fire, back in like 2005 you could have had a 8-20mp japanese flip phone with far more features than were so far advanced compared to other phones of the time. The keys would swap orientations, they had TV built in, 3/4G before everyone else, the displays would twist, spin, flip, rotate,etc.... That was the most exciting time in phone history imo. Nowadays all phone are built like squares for squares

One great advantage of the Flip / Clamshell design is that clumsy handlers find it hard to damage the screen when closed (:

Kingslayer, 21 Jun 2021I really don't see an advantage of owning one of those... moreWhile I personally don't like foldable phones (and I think they should just make it in two parts that get tightly together when unfolded with a squishy buffer area, rather than making the display bend), but I can see the advantage for small pockets, trading height (Galaxy Z Flip, Motorola Razr) or width (Galaxy Z Fold2, Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold, Huawei Mate X2) for thickness is a valid option is many cases.

And I am both happy that they still get made so people liking them can have them, and that they didn't replace regular phones as some said it would happen.

I really don't see an advantage of owning one of those foldable screen flip phones except for nostalgia. I think slabs will never go away.

For foldables, the Galaxy Fold series is the better buy especially for people who want to game and for media consumption. Less need for dedicated tablets.

I had the Motorola V8088 and the Samsung V200 back then. I wish they would revive them like what Nokia is doing.

Hello Life, 20 Jun 2021In all honesty this design style is my favorite but I am st... moreAnd then there's the reliability concern to think about. Micheal Fisher aka MrMobile made a great video about his broken Motorola RAZR 5G*. Despite still fairly usable, I'm still resisting the foldable screen smartphone bandwagon in general. The technology is there, but it still has a long way to go for improved everyday reliability.

Instead, it relies on an electronic motorized mechanism. If there is a mechanical pop-up camera that needs to be accessed manually by hand, that could be a neat solution.

Plastic phones? That never concerns me at all since I use a phone casing all the time.

Lol, I just bought a flip. Best phone ever. Doesnt look like a brick when having it on my pocket *and* is a full phone

Things are at their most bullish when "experts" bearish. Beasically now is the time of the flip phone (*because* articles like the above exist), now is the time for Bitcoin (because all articles suppose it dead).

Think that the experts are slow and you become the real expert. Life was easy thus far.
