Big tech companies push back new antitrust bills, Tim Cook called Speaker Pelosi to oppose them

22 June 2021
A new set of bills will make things more difficult for big tech companies to engage in monopolistic practices.

Imagine these laws being implemented!

This is much needed Bill and it should be passed to discourage big companies monopoly.
It is good for innovative and growing companies, which means good for consumers.
I support this bill and oppose steps by Tim Cook and other Monopoly Kings :(

By 2050 these companies will be too much powerful

ae86, 23 Jun 2021Not even know why lobbying is legal in the US. In our count... morewhen you legalize lobbying you have eradicated corruption because lobbying = legal corruption

when lobbying is legal can a country even call itself democratic? because a rich minority governs the outcome of politics and last time I checked majority decisions were a crucial part of democracies (applies to my home country Germany too not just the US)

ae86, 23 Jun 2021Not even know why lobbying is legal in the US. In our count... moreBoth lobbying and donating to political parties (all 2 of them) and individual politicians are legal in the US.

wouldn't the "Ending Platform Monopolies Act" prohibit Apple from offering Music, TV & Podcast on it's own platform the App Store as they present conflict of interest with others just like Amazon Basics?
And if so wouldn't that make the "American Choice and Innovation Online Act" pointless because platform operators are already prohibited from competing on their own platforms?

Not even know why lobbying is legal in the US. In our country, I'm pretty sure it could ciolate some law or something.

All of these laws seem quite reasonable, especially the ACCESS act. Having all of your data stuck at one place without any possibility of simply transferring them is an unfortunate and arbitrary deterrent to competition.

Now this..I like...too much big tech companies try to take advantage of consumers for a price..especially Facebook

Hah! Those companies just spouting nonsense in fear of the bill. If they care about customers, they just need to support the bill.
Unfortunately, even if the bill passed I think those companies will find a way to have their way around it.

These are some great changes. I hope my country follows it too.
These tech brands have become too powerful.

All empty threats. These big corporations trying to dominate their space through aquisition or bullying or through legal means by eliminating adequate competition. All these rhetoric of privacy, security, safety etc...complete BS. Right all these tech companies have complete data of all human being in the earth and there is no way they can pretend that they safeguard our information. They fear competition, new blood and revolution in Tech Industry instead they want to throttle the innovation and sabotage progress. We badly need few set of companies challenging each one of them.
