This would be a valid excuse if they were upgrading to the ICS performance hog, but they've already done that, therefore it's a BS excuse. Jellybean should in fact address the performance issues of ICS and improve the user experience for 2011 ICS users.

I think it's related to internal memory rather than chipset power, as 2011 Xperias (the neo L, too) have pretty little space, and given the propietary launcher they put, it may just fall short. It's sort of what happened with the Nexus One; techically they could go the extra mile, but they consider it's not worth the effort.

SONY DEVELOPERS ARE BUNCH OF IDIOTS!!! They are very slow and very poor in making updates!! Even xda-developers people managed to fix the LED notification that sony doesnt. And now, They will release JB for Xperia J? Come on! Even the mid-rage xperia mini and mini pro can handle JB evcen better than this Xperia J! Really non-sense!

So the Xperia J s1 processor and adreno 200 GPU gets updated, but not all the phones with s2 processor and adreno 205? So all of the phones with that hardware have around 50% more power than Xperia J. Not to mention that Arc S has 1.4GHz s2 and the that the Xperia: mini, mini pro, active and live with walkman have hvga display and they have 1ghz s2 with adreno 205. This means that the ones 1 mentioned might have almost twice the power of Xperia J. So it all must come Down to the fact that they don't have enough internal memory. All of them have 1gb internal memory and around 300mb is left for the user. Since the Android 4.1 comes with some heavier updates like project butter the internal memory gets too small. All the other xperia of 2011 have many gbs more internal memory.

seriously, the latest Xperia line and the other 2012 Xperias should be getting JB before this year ends! why would the JB update start on 2013?? Sony is really slow in coping up with software updates from google.

8 years of Sony phones from p900 to the android xperiA arc used them all. I'm loving my galaxy nexus..

i can confirm that only the mentioned phones in the article will get it. no jb for sola, neo l !
i do agree with a friend below, that too much focus is on os updates and on cpu/ram.
go to the store play with it and if u like it....buy it.
i see so many discussion end on os update and all these cpu's and ram.
usability should be paramount and not specs or jellybean or chocolate cake lolz

If you want the "Apple experience" on Android, buy Nexus devices. They get upgrades from Google, no problem. Ask anyone with a Nexus S how they're enjoying Jellybean, and its not a new phone.
If on the other hand you want a 3D display, a waterproof phone, a drop-proof phone, a large format phone, a mini phone with a slide-out keyboard or a phone that has IR command options, you don't have those choices on Apple's platform at all.

feeling sorry for sony fans. Another pathetic reason from a top company. They should directly say that we longer will be updating the phones to newer models, rather than giving these reasons. But the guy below said right, phones do serve purposes more than updates. M myself using a nokia 5233, which is way out dated, but still is enough for me to perform all my day to day task. But that doesnt mean the users are to be neglected of future updates.

They didnt gave 2011 phones update because they might nt be able to handle the new os but like gsm said xperia j got it so the other should as well like the arc s.... Oh well using xperia s rite now the after few weeks might get xperia t or tx

All armv7 droids even galaxy mini 2 are getting jb, but Sony is disappointing!! Samsung or nexus or Asus are far better
