Anonymous, 30 Jun 2021Guys, don't be befooled by these Chinese tactics. RAM ... moreOh Mr. Intelligent, this is not BS. It is for real and works pretty fine, too (though, not as good as a typical RAM).

Dude, get your phone checked and prefer installing a Custom ROM. There is hardly any user who needs more than 6 gigs of RAM.

Akashraj, 30 Jun 2021I used miui 12.5 on my Mi 9T Pro. While ram management is b... moreWhat? Stock Android have RAM management also? This is news
Well, my 6.1 Plus used to restart on it's own while using chrome with 1 or 2 tabs and no foreground app running. And yeah, I was NOT alone to experience that.
It seems those UIs had pretty amazing RAM management system.

And dude, MIUI is pretty infamous for killing background apps. So, no way it is possible that they have bad RAM management. Most probably, you are talking of some cheap Xiaomi handset with 4 GB of RAM. And if that's the case, please make a not of it and never buy any phone running MIUI with only 4 GB RAM. MIUI is pretty heavy UI and eats quite a good amount of RAM, too.

Shadocx, 30 Jun 2021I heard people say it's better not to use virtual RAM ... moreIts true, one of my friends used a pen-drive as virtual ram for Windows PC and the pen-drive failed work after months of use

r31ya, 30 Jun 2021Before people go, "Hoaxes~" Virtual RAM existed ... moreIt also existed on Android for years now (almost a decade). That app was called Ram Expander. I use it even today.
The only difference is earlier we had to give root permissions and now OEMs are pre-installing such apps and are hyping it like anything.

Shadocx, 30 Jun 2021I heard people say it's better not to use virtual RAM ... morebasically RAM is designed to significantly last longer in terms of rewrite abilty (it comes with lifetime warranty and all),

Unlike RAM, Storage drives have limited rewrite-ability. The idea of the concern comes from the fact Virtual RAM is basically will make a space in storage drive (in this case 2gb space) to be basically constantly rewritten with new data. So its slowly ate up the rewriteability quotas.

The concern is real, but like 1tb SSD which now came with at least 75 terabytes rewrite-ability, it will last for years even with heavy use.
So if you only plan use your phone for less than 4 years, the UFS inside should've last even with 2gb being used as Virtual RAM.

This is much more apllicable to low-end devices that have like 3GB or less RAM albeit sacrificing some Internal Storage but most have Expandable Storage anyways.

                          Before people go, "Hoaxes~"
Virtual RAM existed in Windows at least since windows 7.
Its not new tech, all it did is move unused RAM data into temp cache in storage drive.

RAM is essentially the same with Storage drive with one main difference, data transfer speed (and rewrite-ability+data retention but thats different story ). RAM is uber fast to transfer data especially compared to common storage drive.
But as SSD matures, like PCIE Gen 4 with its 7gb/s transfer speed is already pretty close to early DDR3 speed. While UFS (smartphone storage drive) is still significantly behind, its already eclipse the old HDD or even the eMMC storage in data transfer speed..

Now Redmi Note 10 pro have pretty sizeable RAM to begin with (6 and 8gb), but now it have the option to offload unused memory like game or apps that you minimize to its UFS 2.2 storage drive. With this, when you re open the long unused app, they don't need to restart the app from the beginning but able to continue from where you left off.

While ram management is better than previous miui versions,it is nowhere near the ram management in stock android/one ui and still lags behind the other Chinese ui like Oxygen OS/color os/Realme ui.

This is what happened when a company releases so many phones every year, no software optimization, everything is molded and slapped with OS, voila, new phone. A phone with 8GB RAM still needs swap? Damn....

Guys, don't be befooled by these Chinese tactics. RAM components are quite different than ROM or storage.

I heard people say it's better not to use virtual RAM as it supposedly reduce the storage's life expectancy, any experts here want to give me their opinion?

This is a harddisk cache. Okay for speeding access but I wouldn't call it ram. Seems misleading.
