They warned them of the similarity between the looks due to the shape, which was not apples idea nor were they the first to use it. It ultimately came down to Google warning Samsung of Apple's ridiculous unjust actions.
And since when are they distancing themselves? Because not every Nexus phone is a Samsung? Wow......

HAHA! Airplane mode? What the actual fudge? This technology was introduced before Samsung even had their first phone in the works. This legal war is ridiculously funny at times. Don't even get me started on downloading apps. How the hell is one to install an app without downloading it first?? Downloading is just downloading, simple as that. It's not even patented nor ever will be. Come on Samsung, don't be the Apple against Apple as this will make nothing but apple pie.. or cider :) Well, come to think of it, cider doesn't sound like such a bad idea after all. Keep fighting then! Where's my cider?

A S.Korean company filing a lawsuit in Japan - a pro-US country. Not to mention the competitive history between the two countries. They had it coming even before it started. It doesn't mean the court decision represents the truth. Instead of suing, Samsung should just have concentrated on keeping technologically ahead of Apple--then all these copying won't matter. People will still buy their products.
With these lawsuits, companies will become less and less innovative - being too careful they don't "step" on someones patent. The real losers will be us consumers.
