Dudenoway, 13 Jul 2021Dual display take alot of space which mean less room for ba... moreTrue, but only in appearance, first, we don't need to go all full back, we can have something like the Mi 11 Ultra where it is in the camera bump which thanks to the display become symmetrical.

And even there, the most modern example we have is from the Nubia Z20 which is 9mm, 4Ah and from mid 2019, and while it was 1mm thicker than most other phones that were at 8mm or 7,9mm, they didn't have much more battery, like the Galaxy S10+ with 4100mAh, and the OnePlus 7 Pro that was almost 9mm also only had 4Ah*.
And the Xperia 1 was 8.2mm but only had a 3330mAh battery.
In comparison, the Vivo NEX Dual Display from end 2018 was 8.1mm and had a 3500mAh battery.
So it can definitely be improved, the same way the Poco F2 Pro dramatically improved battery capacity with the pop up.
And while the micro display on the Mi 11 Ultra is definitely too small, the one showcased with the Mi Mix 4 is much better :
https://www.gsmarena.com/rumors_the_xiaomi_mi_mix_4_will_have_a_completely_invisible_under_display_camera_rear_display-news-49935.php

So second display on the back for sure still have potential!
Besides, the Mi 11 Ultra and Mi Mix 4 already have them anyway, they just don't take advantage of it to yeet the selfie camera (or maybe the Mi Mix 4 actually do?).

Wtf are you all doing with your phones? I can't remember when if I ever had my phones wet, to any extent, since I had my first one almost 20y ago.

Anonymous, 13 Jul 2021Axon 7 was true flagship, expect the IP rating. QHD, 20... moreActually, there wasn't much IP rated phones back then in 2016 :
                    https://www.gsmarena.com/results.php3?nYearMax=2016&sIPCerts=2,5,6
People were not obsessed with it, and it was great!

People want removable battery + big/front/stereo speakers and IP rating, no, it doesn't work that way, it is either IP rating or actually useful features and good enough discipline so it isn't needed anyway, but not both.

Jojo, 12 Jul 2021Nope. Pop up were cool before, but now that they perfected ... moreExcept that they don't take that much room, I've made the calculations of body volume to battery capacity ratio here :
                            https://www.gsmarena.com/newscomm-48898.php#2301010
And while the older OnePlus 7(t) Pro and Samsung A80 did have a bad ratio, more modern ones like the Poco F2 Pro actually has a better ratio than many phones with similar size and is well in the average, and yes it include thickness too, and this despite the Poco F2 Pro literally having the world's largest cooling chamber of any phones when it was released (I don't know if it is still the case), a 3.5mm Jack, underdisplay fingerprint scanner, quad camera and IR blaster.
Proving that the pop up is actually not that big of a deal space wise.

The Poco F2 Pro is IP53 rated, and honestly, do you REALLY need more anyway?
IP rating is just a rating, it isn't what make the phone actually water resistant, and even IP67 and IP68 rated phones still get often destroyed by liquids.
In fact, many believe it makes the phone waterproof, and because of the cognitive bias, many use their phone under water, and many of them regret it as none of the known brands cover water damage.
Also, the pop up can be made TOTALLY waterproof, yes, not water resistant, but actual waterproof, with very little changes, I've a whole fictional concept phone built around it :
                            https://imgur.com/gallery/ykYfaa6

It cost probably less than the punch hole and for sure way less than the underdisplay camera whose cost isn't showing yet, but be sure that the years of RnD will get a big and unpleasant hit on smartphone costs in the future.
You'll find phones with pop up among the cheapest, even the Poco F2 Pro was one of the cheapest smartphone with the SD865 (its price has inflated since it is harder to find now), and some phones costing between 100¤ and 200¤ having a pop up prove it is cheap.

There are really few reports of pop up ever failing, moving parts are much more resilient than people make them to be.
In fact the display, the battery and the silicon will all degrade over time as well, and more rapidly in fact, the battery to the point that it degrade when not in use, and the display is much more fragile than the pop up.

That's the problem, there are better alternatives that cost less and give better results, it would be quite sad if the only available tech is the worse one.

Pop up were cool before, but now that they perfected USC there is no need., Plus they take up a lot of room internally, destroy IP rating, cost more, and more parts to break with motor. Every phone will have USC in 2 years. Just like fingerprint sensor.

Pop up, flip up, sliders, no front camera + second display on the back, all those already worked fine and didn't require tons of R&D for years to be made, and they only wait to be improved even further!
Even the good old bezel was better than this underdisplay contraption.
