"Launched back in 2012, the Nokia 808 sensor wouldn’t be surpassed in resolution for another 7 years and in terms of pure size - until early 2021."
1. The Nokia 808 had a Bayer sensor and as far as I know the first phone with a Bayer sensor and more than 30 megapixels (since the 808) was the Galaxy S20.
2. The Panasonic Cm1 uses a larger sensor area.
3. Light per time is often more important than sensor size. Already the Huawei P30 Pro captured more light per time than the 808. There was no OIS either, which leads to a shorter exposure time and less light than other phones.

Everything has already been said here. Compare with iPhone 12, Xaiomi 11 Ultra, P40. And in FULL resolution of 41 mpx (someone buying a 808 in 2021 knows what he is doing)

wait, i've just noticed, did GSMArena remove it's camera comparison tool? I mean i haven't bought a phone for it's camera spec ever, but it's nice to compare to what i have upgraded over the decade or what not.

AnonD-936656, 14 Jul 2021iPhone, Samsung and Pixel phones shoot better picstures.Nokia 808 had big sensor with bigger pixels, it can take good pics in all situation. current phones relies much on software, sometimes they fail really bad in un expected enviroments.

Still in 2021, we haven't seen any match for this. Only more and more megapixels that can't even be used properly! More and more ai, that ruins more quality than it gives!

Anonymous, 14 Jul 2021Instead of 5MP, the downsampling should have been few more MP. You can choose between 2(3)MP, 5MP, 8MP and full resolution. I am using only full resolution (most detail), unless I want to zoom. 5MP downsampling is set in full auto.

But it takes a far better pic than ANY phone can, it gathers far more light, far less processing needed.
Until someone learns how to break the laws of physics, cos of the tiny lenses, all phone cameras will be crap, raw data is always going to need lots of post processing...
Are you happy with a totaly invented version of what you took a pic of ?
Me, I prefer purer, less processed/invented pics.

AnonD-936656, 14 Jul 2021iPhone, Samsung and Pixel phones shoot better picstures.Nah. Maybe if you love paintings. I got Huawei P30Pro as main daily driver. No slouch in mobile photography for sure. But I barely use it for that purpose. Because of 808.
