Of course, in case the OEM messes up with the software (which might be the case of Samsung with their bloatware) then, of course, the software should also be taken into consideration. But in general, the chipset efficiency is the most important factor here. For example if there are 2 devices with similar battery capacity and with "close-to-stock" UI and with no bloatware, then you will see a huge difference in battery life depending on the chipset design and manufacturing process. The best combination of these currently on the Android market is for the Snapdragon 865, 865+ and 870 series -> ARM cortex a77, Qualcomm IP, 7nm TSMC(7NP) node.

It's been lot of time Realme didn't release the device in my country. Realme X7 Pro and Realme X7 Max aren't that value for money and mediatek means no go for me.

As a businessman, I have to take lot of calls. It gives me problems. Sometimes it gives me issues in Redmi Note 10 Pro as well. But with custom rom, it got solved. That's not the case with Mi11X. Another device with snapdragon 87O is iQOO7 which has locked bootloader and its UI is pathetic. So can't flash roms. Otherwise, in every aspect I would have loved to have that device.

Snapdragon 780G is not available due to supply chain issues. Mediatek are not that great with custom rom support. Currently using Redmi Note 9 Pro and 10 Pro with custom roms on it. So basically I flash roms within few days. Redmi Note series have served me well over the years and it will continue too. I hope Redmi Note 11 Pro will bring snapdragon 778G inside them.

If you are thinking of smaller manufacturing process (nm) then it is not true. 865 865+ and 870 are all manufactured on the same TSMC's 7 nm (7NP) node. This means that between these, 865 has better power consumption (because of the lower frequencies).

Cortex A77 and Cortex A78 have similar performance. In some areas A78 is better, in others the A77 is better, as the A78 was built with Cortex X1 in mind, so the jump from A77 to A78 was focused more on efficiency rather than performance as A78 was meant to be used in flagships together with X1. For midrange/premium devices A78 still offers plenty of performance.

And the 870 is still a bonafide flagship chip. You're getting faster memory and storage speeds there, the modem and isp is obviously better, plus it's still the 2nd best performing android chip on the market. Some even go as far to say it's even better than the latest one because of the 888 heating fiasco.
(Also, it's worth mentioning that D1200 is trailing right behind 870, but usually it's priced about the same as 778/780)
Edit: apologies that I didn't factor in huawei's and samsung's chips in my post. But still, they're not as ubiquitous as qualcomm/mediatek ones.

If both the devices having snapdragon 778G,then it's utter disappointment. Snapdragon 870 powered device should be there(256GB/512GB are welcome variants). I won't mind paying 550USD for this.
