And what if we get the two of them because they are just 2 different worlds and comparing them just show how clueless one can be about gaming?

The steam deck is incredible. but i'm low on money (realistically it starts at 530$ for the 256gb cause pc games larger and need faster storage) and also. my back already hurts from carrying the switch in my purse everywhere, the extra (270g) seems like a lot. it's also bigger and bulkier and I lack space.

Hemedans, 18 Jul 2021this thing is cheaper than any laptop/desktop/tablet at sam... moreExactly what I was saying. For regular people that just surf the internet, use Office and maybe play some light games, Steam Deck is becoming a good alternative for laptops around the same price tag.
I'm looking at this as being more than just a gaming console. It's a hybrid between that and a PC. The Switch on the other hand is just a gaming console without a real operating system and you can only play games on it. Nobody is denying it as being a good device, but it's nowhere close to Valve's Steam Deck which is offering a LOT more flexibility and options.

Davy Jones, 19 Jul 2021I am curious about the thermal performance of steam deckShould have a fan cooling would be sufficient then no room for throttling maybe that's why 2 your battery life
Also the tera flops can't really be compared properly even snapdragon 888 has 1.7 tflops but Kirin 9000 with Mali us 2.3 tf but performance is less so very hard compare different architectures in compute power

I'm totally on board for a 'serious' Switch that can access the PC ecosystem...but I think that Valve really fumbled the implementation.

This thing weighs twice what the Switch does, the button layout is weird, and the 2-8 hour battery life sounds like it will tank every time you actually anything intensive in handheld mode. So it's a hybrid machine that kind of misses the mark as a handheld. I think I'll stick to my laptop for now. It's like Valve took too many notes on the 'Switch Pro' rumors and not enough on the Switch itself.

But the hype is such that I think the Steam Deck is going to sell like hotcakes. The upside is that that might motivate some actual hardware developers to release a decent take on a 'serious' Switch.

Oh for god sake, Steam deck is not rival of Switch or even any other console... Its totally different product for different market... Damn I seriously though that GSMA team have more brain to see that...

I will buy both ... and you are missing this option in poll.

Shenmue II (2001) is my 2nd all-time favorite game behind only the original Final Fantasy VII (1997). I had the European version for it on the Dreamcast and then beat it twice more on the original Xbox. Then bought it again in 2018 when it came to the PS4.

Shenmue II is my only top 10 favorite game I don't own on a handheld. The Steam Deck is a must-have for me just to play that game on a portable. The Switch OLED is a joke. I can play more modern games on a Steam Deck. It probably covers more past generations for emulation.

ae86, 18 Jul 2021Handheld games is meant for the nintendo. If I'm going... moreI have a switch. That’s my only console. Frat of all in terms of games Nintendo started off pretty strong but past 2 years have been lackluster. I’m tired of playing 3rs party games in 20fps.

The steam deck is what I always wanted. Will be selling my switch

Steam has the Shenmue Trilogy. I've never played Shenmue on a handheld. I did play it briefly on my PS Vita using in Remote Play but it's still glitchy. My Vita can't catch up to whatever my TV was showing.

The more I read about Valve, the more I believe they will become the Netflix of gaming. They've already worked with HTC for VR gaming. This is a breakthrough device, folks. How we play games will now come from Steam

                                        A portable console needs:

                                        1. Battery life
                                        2. Choice of games
                                        3. Controls (Not controller) - The games have to be built for the controller, not the other way round.

So for example, if you play a game that is built for keyboard / mouse with tons of buttons involved.. and you try to squeeze said game into a console paradigm.. it may be subpar.

So for all of this, switch will not be beaten by this. In fact, i think both will coexist together.. one for those who really really want their pc games on the go.. and willing to take the compromise.. and the switch.
