CIRP: Apple and Android are tied at 50% new activations in the US in Q2

19 July 2021
Apple's higher loyalty and minimal switching helped it break even.

Sort by:

” Mike Levin, co-founder of CIRP, says this is due to loyalty and switching - iPhone users have a higher 93% loyalty, compared to 88% for Android users. And iPhone users are more likely to buy another iPhone than to switch over to Android.”

Never seen so many Android switchers going for iPhone than what i’ve seen with iPhone 12 series, with 13 series there will be even more. No wonder why Android boys been so loud, insecure and bitter recently :D

blue.sun, 20 Jul 2021Top model pricing is always insane, no matter whether it is... moreI always feel like vanilla iPhone models are the best pick. It's a good balance of features and price.

It makes sense as the life span of an iphone is longer than for android in terms of os and security support. Samsung offers 3 versions of os and 4 years of security patches while apple offers minimum 5 os versions ans even more security updates so it makes sense if you don't want to change that often the phones. Plus you get better discounts when trading you phone for a new iphone. While there are things that android phone do better this is the weakes point. And in a world of ransomware and other security threats then this is the way to go for the normal user.

Mr. Kroniks, 20 Jul 2021It's so funny to read all these comments from people w... morePffft. Different products? Really you just have to compare an android flagship side by side by the top iPhone and you can see the difference in hardware. The open policy of Android vs closed off iPhone and you know what I'm gonna choose. It's just like Mac vs well normal laptop. Why would I waste my money on a Mac(even if its 'ahem' better for developers) when I can get another laptop that can do developing and much more. Same with iPhone.

at high end only iphones make sense, since there is monopoly for that ecosystem

Henchen, 20 Jul 2021It's make more sense now buy iphone than Android flags... moreTop model pricing is always insane, no matter whether it is android or Apple. The majority of Apple sales is made by cheaper models, such as SE, XR, 11, or basic 12. Only a small part is the most expensive Pro Max.
And android top models are better than Apple top, so they deserve a higher price tag.

Especially if these comments are from Apple haters, who try to offend everybody just because they prefer different product (neither better nor worse, just different).

That's how I use both daily.

I prefer Android but I no longer like Google as a company. Too much spying 🕵🏻. Same may not care but they have too much power. I've considered trying to DeGoogle my phone but it's practically impossible.

Now with iOS, my iPhone 4S can still play YouTube off Safari and can still browse the web but my BlackBerry Bold 9900 can play videos and music because I just Bluetooth transfer it. For decade old devices, they each have their quirks and can only be used as a media player. Can't install apps for either.

It’s overpriced just for developing and under developed countries.

Correct me if I am wrong....ios was less then 50% activations before. Now it is 50%. Are some people ditching android to go to ios?

But apple will still earn more.

It's time for google to do something about the apps on play store, the way apple refine & optimize third party apps on iOS is something android can never compete with.

Just goes to show that a powerful marketing team can brainwash many people into buying overpriced and near-obsolete… (how can I put this, without saying the word „trash“?) gimmicks. Because if someone has a phone from the fruit-logo company, that automatically makes that person a superior one!!!

So it is true that people massively switch to the iPhone / iOS. This is what I noticed in my country, too. Even hardcore Androids now send blue bubbles in iMessanger. In a few years iOS will double.
