Sony Netherlands probably spilled the beans and they must be correct but the top dogs at Sony noticed this and must have felt embarrassed.

So the guy in charge must have come up with a plan. Let's give them 2 major updates. 1st within a few months of the Android 12 launch. 2nd anytime between the next 2 years, lel.

No excuses here. This phone must receive at least 3 major updates and a possible 4th.

In 2 to 3 years Your Galaxy S10 will be unusable compared to the XP1 ii, that's the point. Meanwhile even the XP1 ii battery would still very much be alive. Apple and Samsung cripple their phones with updates to force you to upgrade, that's a fact, they've been caught and it's proven.
How hard can this be to just understand?

Besides the S10 is still very much fresh. Xperias are the only complete phones around today (Long Live LG), that also is an easy to identify fact.

Now the question is do we care about that? Mostly not. We can change the battery for 50/60 bucks in two years or majority of us don't use a phone that longer.
That is why whenever people say its for the betterment of.the battery, i don't think it applies to me ( to a lot too) as I don't care what would happen after 1.5 years. I would eventually sell it and buy a new one.

I want my phone to run 4-6 years without battery life change, but most people like fast charging.

Im a Sony fanboy (TV, PS4) but their phones dont appeal to me at all. I was kinda curious about Xperia 10.3. But its just a 60hz screen and an abysmal 7.5w charger. I mean come on, Sony. The competition just offers better value for money.

Dometalican, 20 Jul 2021Actually bro, as much as I hate Samsung's hypocritical... moreYes. More updates on Samung to bring adds on UI and more junk. Xperia Android weight about ~700MB, Samsung about ~1.8GB. I chose lightweight system.

Shanti Dope, 21 Jul 20212 OS upgrades + 3 years of security updates, is that really... moreMy Galaxy S10+ is still working fine and between the older Xperia 1 II i purchased last year i decided to stick with the Samsung which was overall a better phone for me.

Kind of hard to justify with this one aside from it being a decision being made by the company hopefully after so much deliberations on their part.

Cost: Xperia 1 III costs a LOT.
Releases: Sony doesn't even have that much of phones released to maintain.

Relative to other device manufactrurers Sony just decides that we'll only give this phone the bare-minimum that Android enforces us to do. Forget the price, it's a Sony, buy it, just do it!

Shanti Dope, 21 Jul 2021I don't know exactly what Sony told them earlier, but ... more
I don't know what you think all that rambling has to do with the matter at hand?
The point is people were saying it was just them hating Sony and not doing things proper.
Then it was pointed out that Sony themselves said it.
Then it had to be pointed out again.
So the point remains you wanna complain then why did Sony say it?
If you have an issue answer that. Dont side track with unrelated crap because you love Sony. Don't continue to blame this site. Stop passing the blame and side tracking.

Sony is the one that told them it couldn't output 4k at 120hz.

Shanti Dope, 21 Jul 20212 OS upgrades + 3 years of security updates, is that really... moreKnowing & own Xperia before, they are very good with major Android Update, definitely more than 2 years. But without bugs? Lol Sony known as introducing bugs updates after updates. Some they'll fix it, some they will not bother anymore.

I didnt encounter any of those after switching to Huawei. Its been 4 years now after switching, still gonna stick with it.

Sony needs to heed LG's example and shutdown its smartphone business; they're going nowhere fast.

Bob, 21 Jul 2021Seriously SONY just give people more updates to justify the... more2 OS upgrades + 3 years of security updates, is that really so bad when it's essentially what almost every Android flagships have?

Samsung just gave out a year longer support, but it gets paid back from how they intentionally slow down their phones from updates. Sony, on the other hand, gives off only consistently fast, smooth, and stable software updates with no planned obsolescence agenda happening.
No wonder why an Xperia Z2 is still perfectly usable as a backup phone today, while the same can't be said for a Galaxy S5.
I'd honestly be more happy with not supporting software updates fof a super long time than have the manufacturer intentionally cripple down my phone and force me to upgrade.
Besides, new OS nowadays bring no big features anymore, and most people already have everything they need from Android Oreo.

If Android 13 or 14 won't bring Sony's H.S. power control feature as a built-in function in the OS, then sorry but I'm not wanting it.

Strawhat, 20 Jul 2021a52 and a72 (midrange phone from Samsung) get 3 years of os... moreAs much as I'd also love to have 3 years worth of support, Android OS upgrades nowadays are barebones, as we already have pretty much everything we'd ever need in a smartphone since Android Oreo.
Besides, new features can just be added without the need to have a new OS.

What matters a lot more, however, is to have a good and stable running software that wouldn't slow down after just a few years of use. I don't know much about Samsung's One UI, but Sony has already been known to deliver some of the most consistently fast, smooth, and stable software on Android platform for years. You'll see this with XZ Premium users being still happy with the speed and fluidity of their devices, while the same thing can't be said about a Galaxy Note 8.
On top of that, Sony is going to give 3 years worth of security updates on this phone, so it is still going to be nicely supported for some time longer, and those updates are more important than incremental OS upgrades that bring almost nothing new to the experience.

Anonymous, 20 Jul 2021Why did Sony tell them otherwise? I don't know exactly what Sony told them earlier, but the thing for sure is that it is a true 4K 120Hz working panel natively. After all, it's not like the display is turning off some of its pixels to achieve the lower resolution 1080p look to achieve 120Hz, so the panel itself is still running in native 4K resolution.

It's one of the great things about Sony, is that they actually deliver what they advertise. If they claim it to be a 4K 120Hz panel, then it's definitely a 4K 120Hz display, period.

Anonymous, 20 Jul 2021Besides pixels, which phone got 3 updates so far? None ... Does OnePlus not ring a bell to you? Essential? Their 3 update phones were insanely cheaper than this.
