If they actually use the rumored matrix 1/1.5 inch sensor I will be a little disappointed. There are so many other better options that might as well be cheaper since they are not custom like the GN1/2 and HM2.

If it has to work for video r... moreIdeally, a phone would have a physical, and hardware switch for the microphones (at least, other things too like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, etc would be also nice), a front facing camera that doesn't constantly see the user when there is no need for it, or no front facing camera at all, and the main cameras behind shielded both for privacy and protecting the lenses.

    Indeed, it is crazy to see how many people consider me as a tin hat wearing crazy who believe in every "conspiracy theories" when in the same time, proven and totally public scandals about borderline legal and illegal privacy intrusion occur at least weekly.

    Moving parts aren't much more susceptible to damage, and the phones makers clearly aren't against it, it is all the people who bashed them and this totally false idea that they are super fragile that killed them.

    Personally, I'd prefer having simply no front camera at all.
    If I have to have one, a pop up is a great solution, mainly considering how much we can improve this tech.

    For example, look at my fictional concept smartphone build around an electromagnetically actuated pop up who is 100% waterproof (as it doesn't have any openings) and no moving parts other than the pop up itself :

    And imagine it being combined with this dual zoom (true continuously variable focal length) lens single sensor setup :

    This single sensor setup basically has an Ultra-Wide to Wide and a Wide to Telephoto periscope, the Telephoto has a powerful focus control allowing to make extremely close Macro shots as well as true Portrait, and the way it works also allow to have a pop up (which would then be a simple prism) using the main sensor, so a single super powerful sensor that can do all roles, including selfies, and it also has the ability to goes from Wide to Ultra-Wide on selfie mode.

    Note that the length is unusual as the focus is controlled through lenses rather than through an iris, the idea is to have always the largest aperture opening and still allow for super deep depth of field.

        In the long term, let's hope privacy is taken more seriously.

        Maybe you favour a camera design in which both main and selfie cameras can be the same, like the Samsung A80? That is a good choice, but phone makers prefer more stability and less moving parts suspectible to damage, although I would love a selfie camera equal to the main camera.

          This is why I liked the Oppo Find X, not only he had a pop up, meaning it was privacy-friendly in the front, but it also had the main cameras being hidden, and you had the 3D face recognition!

          Though the way it worked could be made better, if rather than being the whole top of the phone lifting (therefor not opening it, and letting it being actually sealed off), it could have the pop up/slider hybrid being actually on the outside of the phone, mounted on the top back part, in a dent, it could both works as a pop up while covering the actual main camera too.

You never know which camera is on.

            Problem is more with long term, things which have underdisplay cameras might not be recognised so easily by us. Tomorrow this will shift to LED TV's and so on.

                The lack of Jack AKA one of the most useful standard ever on Smartphones.
                And the totally stupid and awful underdisplay camera that has low quality, make an ugly spot on the display, and is a privacy nightmare.

                            Now bring back the slider like the Honor Magic 2 3D rather than this awful underdisplay camera gimmick.
                            Put FLAT display, and put the 3.5mm Jack back, and the phone will be interesting.
