I put books, audio books, movies that I want to see later etc. Sometimes 128 is not enough. Even 256 if you want to take with you a lot of good quality music.

Having microSD card is also super useful when changing phones. If I keep all my files inside the internal storage, I have to transfer all of them to the PC or a USB OTG stick and retransfer the whole thing again. Not only it's time consuming, it's totally cumbersome! I don't have to worry any of it with the microSD card.
And here's another thing: Apps NEVER installed on external storage by default and the size gets bigger everytime you update it. So by the time you factor in the amount of storage taken from all the install apps, there is little room for video recording. Samsung even mentioned that a one-minute 8K/24fps video took up 600MB of storage. 600MB in ONE MINUTE! With that 128GB, you only have three hours to deal with it.

Game like Genshini Impact use 9.5GB installed plus optional contents it can go up to 12GB, that's just one Game occupy 10% of 128GB.
If you play Emulators one rom like NBA2k20 is 32GB in size, that's more than 25% of 128GB storage.
So you can Fill 128GB with few Games.
And that's just Games, there are 4K/8K videos which occupy lot of storage,
One Hour of 8k uncompressed video is Around 7TB, so few minutes will make your 256GB phone full,
Compressed 8k Video with x264 will take Around 60GB per hour and x265 around 22GB per Hour.

Let say you take many picture or videos on your phone, sure 128/256 is enough, then the phone broken, what are you gonna do? People with microsd just remove the thing and move it to another phone. Thank god if you have a backup, but when s**t happens and no backup, phone without microsd is finished. Also, don't relies on cloud.

You only have 1 chance to record before the moment is gone or the person you interview needs to go far away. Or you just recorded a precious moment in a video and you want to share it with family. Just when you finish recording before you can upload, someone bumped on you. You drop your phone and somehow it got stepped on or crushed under a passing car. Phone dead. Moment gone. Data gone. Job gone.
That's just an extreme example but anything can happen. Small chance but it can still happen. If you use external microSD, you can save the recording data directly into it, and more likely for it to stay safe inside the phone even when the phone is broken into 2 pieces.
