Tim, 31 Oct 2012People in the US are more worried about what people think, ... more3gs is still very good phone except screen res.

It have newest iOS6 which works very well.

Its very hard to notice that 3gs actually is over 3 years old phone, because it still works so well and smooth etc. It just tells how much ahead iPhone was in 2009, well it was already 2007 when first iPhone came.

People in the US are more worried about what people think, they like to make themselves look likethey have money.

THe number of 3GS's that I saw afterthe were 'free' on a plan was huge. It is really sad actually that these people would buy a 4 year old phone just to look the part to tout "I have an IPhone".

I also saw 2 middle aged women at the airport bragging about their iPhones 4 they just purchased yet had to ask how me to turn the wifi on.

The US is all about "keeping up with the Joneses" - Yes I have an I phone too, look aren't i cool...

I prefer Android over iOS. But iOS has some key advantages. It is not fragmented like Android and different apps are having the same logic which isn't quite the case with Android. Google should be more strict when it comes to UI and the looks of the apps. Google should also demand from manufacturers that they are obligated to update all their phones for 36 months within a 4 months time period after the new version of Android is available. This would automatically force the companies to produce less phone models. For example HTC would only issue one flagship per year and 4 other new models not like now when we witness one phone every two or three weeks of course not world wide available.
But there is a danger that companies would turn to less restrictive OS provider and Google could eventually lose some market share.

If they are not going to redesign their software from the ground up to keep up with Android and Windows it's all going to be downhill from here.

Real word stats..have yet to see any of my iphone friends jump onto the IP5 . Actually many of them are thinking going android after the IP5 looked so stale and they got sick of having their pockets sucked dry by the istore. WP8....hahahahaha. Have yet to see a such phone in my city...and i think I will never see one this time soon Bottom line is Android no matter what you say is geting more popular. Phones are nicer and more advanced and the Playstore is exploitable without a wallet. Seriously, people like diversity and i am up for it but what is the competiton offering to tempt me away. Let me resume it for you...android customisable, updatable and apps for FREEEE .

You should also consider that iOS devices are 2 to 4 times more expensive that Android devices, so for one iPhone they get more share than you get for an Android device.

The reason why so much iphones are sold in US and so much less in EU is very simple and has nothing to do with intelligence. it's simple, folks, it's the prices. Iphone costs more, much more than every other phone. Nevertheless, US carriers retail it much cheaper than other phones. The reason is that Apple rapes the carriers, who on their turn rape the consumers. All non Apple consumers. In the same time, iphone buyers get more value, both perceived and resell, for their money.
Well, in most EU countries it's illegal to do what US carriers do. You can't privilege one customer at the expense of another. The result is, in France for instance, iphone 4s 16G selling with plan for the same price as the newest Android phones. Which seems to me fair, given that they retail for similar price w/o plan.

The next report will have iOS gaining a little more share, and WP eating up part of Androids.

Sorry Android fans, but WP8 isn't geared up just to take on iOS. It's gunning for your OS as well.

i don't think that apple got any future in the mobile sector.

we saw that mr. jobs was THE key to apples success.

the iphone5 and the new ipad are so without inovation.

apple is not on the train which is leaving the city right now. it is wrong to think that companies are able to tell people what they want. people are ready to change you against something better at any time. ask nokia and rim!

we will see what inovations the upcoming iphone will bring.
i believe that apple is not going to stay in the mobile business. i said it and i will say it again. 5 years after steve jobs dead apple is not producing phones anymore.

the changes in the management make me believe that apple is looking for someone who brings new good ideas - or atleast new ideas.
