Philips are obviously making a go at the high-end market, something they've been keeping away for quite some time. Today they've officially stepped up with...

There's lot of puff out there on this phone, and you'd have to wonder if it's real. Techradar and Pocketlint have both dug up denials the phone will be ever leaving China.

Philips is not active in the mobile market anymore, they sold the handset manufacturing division to China Electronics Corp in 2001, and CEC have the rights to use the brand name in China and nowhere else.

So to have the above specs, with no source mentioned and the location of the device launch unclear, you'd have to assume it is a little bit wide of the mark.

Hasn't anyone noticed that there are 3 different handsets shown here?! The first picture is of the Xenium which is completely different to picture 3, which is apparently also a picture of the Xenium!

There is nothing official about it. The second one is rendering. No live shots or anything, they haven't been announced yet.

I agree with Pia. Full internet is way more convenient than wifi. And it's so true, that those cheap ones who demand wifi probably can't afford to pay full internet, but then why do they even bother with high-end phones like this one if they will not get full internet access, coz when you do get full internet, it would make wifi useless. So for those cheap ones out there, stick with low end phones with wifi. Those are your kind of phones.

I hope this phone wouldn't come with wifi, so that it would discourage those cheap wannabes on getting this phone. I always get full internet access anyway, so wifi would be useless for me. It would just add to the cost of this beautiful phone.

The X-Connect is definitely on my list for my next phone, along with Nokia Tube. It looks so sleek and elegant. I can't wait to know more about it. I don't care about wifi. It is VERY inconvenient, and MOST of the time you get connection problems, and when you get a dependable one, it's usually secured and requires a fee, and if you're at a hotspot cafe, it would be UNETHICAL not to order anything while using their wifi services, so guess what, you'd end up paying over $20 a month on wifi when you could subscribe full internet access for also $20/month & conveniently access the internet anytime, anywhere. BTW, I have an N95 8gb and it has wifi, so I know what I am talking about the inconveniences of depending on wifi. Wifi on phones is handy, but it shouldn't be a deciding factor. Wifi is really BEST for laptops when you really plan to go to a hotspot to do some serious browsing. I don't mean to offend, but don't be cheap =)If on-the-go internet is a MUST for you, wifi is NOT what you need, but full internet access on your phone through your provider. Cheap guys are major turn-offs for me =) BTW, there is a difference between being poor and being cheap. A poor person can be practical and buy a basic phone, while a cheap person would want to buy a high-end phone and complains that it does not have free wifi, ROTFL.

Philips are already here they own LG so this had to happen to widen there strength in the mobile market, but up till now LG don"t seem to impress me as they seem more bothered about the look of the mobiles they release instead of the functions or reliability of there mobiles,an we do not see to get any Philips mobiles in the U.k

If only X-Connect has Wifi, it will be serious contender for High end phones.

Great, another smartphone manufacturer entering this market. In my opinion smartphones are too extensive, the manufacturers are making way too much profit of consumers for what was a novelty idea. I hope more players enter the market, some healthy competition will cause them to charge normal prices.

Wi-Fi hot spots are growing in number all over the world. The UK boasts over 10,000 hot spots now so Wi-Fi on the move is becoming more and more necessary. A free Wi-Fi connection when your in town is better than paying the expensive GPRS fee's to the networks.
