Xiaomi Mi 12 said to have LPDDR5X RAM to go with its Snapdragon 898 chipset

The newly-announced standard has 33% higher maximum bandwidth compared to the current LPDDR5 RAM.

phones get faster everyday but they're limited on what they can do. if only it was *that* easy to install desktop OS likex Windows or Linux distro on phones.

otherwise all those increase in power are useless because only a few apps can tap that power.

    Hopefully 16k, then it might have enough datarate to make 4k and 8k reasonable.

    Pity that 16k is not going be better, it's good for VR filming.

          S888 is soo powerful it draws 10Watts power, that's almost close too the Arm cortex A15 cores

              Just having a desktop environment doesn't bring that much periodicity. In xiaomi family products just fold has a desktop environment.

              True productivity comes when you can have a desktop environment in a bigger screen.
              Dex does it in two modes, wireless display or USB C connection.
              Xiaomi doesn't have USB C 3.1 on any of their phones so a cable connection is out of question and I don't think they implemented a wireless display mode on fold (a useful option but anyway is an inferior way respect to ucb c hubs with all their extra ports).

                      Xiaomi could start implementing a desktop mode since mi 9 and till now maybe their desktop environment could have received couple of updates and getting matured, but nothing.

                      Motorola has done it with G100, which is not even a flagship and you can have it for less than 500 euros.

It's the same thing Samsung did with the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite and Galaxy Tab S7 FE - they only have a Desktop Mode user interface, not the feature itself that allows you to connect to an external monitor. Neither those Samsung tablets nor Xiaomi phones can do the latter.

For a flagship-grade with such excessive firepower, it is more than capable to replace any Chromebook and budget Windows 10 laptops. What is the whole point of buying a $1000+ smartphone only to get a USB-C 2.0 port with no HDMI ALT support? A similarly-priced Samsung smartphone can turn the smartphone into a pocket PC with DeX. Even Sony and OnePlus can give HDMI ALT support despite not having a Desktop Mode iteration of their own.

                                We don't know if the 16% improvement in performance is at same power or, as shown in the graph, at the expense of more power expanding the curve. Anandtech seems to believe the later.

                                But with A710 is quite clear that the 10% improvement is indeed at same power, while the efficiency gain is at same performance. Not both at the same time.

                                Rumors say that the X2 will be clocked much higher in the snapdragon 898, exacerbating the power and heat problem of the X1, and even if the 4nm node from Samsung does indeed reduce power by 16% and QC does not give a shet about reducing area (highly unlikely because profits), the end result will be power levels of current gen.

                                With the A710 is much easier to keep it in check. Problem is, if you opt for efficiency instead of performance, you couldn't sell any benchmark numbers for multicore as they usually do.

                                I really don't see how power can go down, at least not significantly.

                                      Smaller pixels do not make sensor smaller, that is the opposite because the gaps between them compared to bayer sensor.
                                      Samung sensors have more bezels than sony sensors.

                                        ARM has optimized the X2's peak performance and doubled its machine learning (ML) performance, L3 system cache is doubled to 8MB. It promises a 16% speed increase over an X1 core and running at the same frequency.

                                        The new Cortex-A710 is only 10% faster than an A78 (on the same node and frequency), but the power efficiency has increased by 30%, the speed of machine learning has doubled. A chipset with an A710 CPU and Mali-G710 GPU will see a 33% increase in CPU performance, 20% in GPU performance and will be 15% more efficient compared to a current A78 / G78 design
