01 August 2021
The embattled company is not giving up and is still making flagships - but it has had to limit its ambition for this generation.

Anonymous, 01 Aug 2021Zenfone 8 The cameras are flagship killer level, but excellent for the price, but compared to small flagships from apple, Samsung, pixel, huawei, it is 7.5 out of 10

AnonD-1011641, 01 Aug 2021I think Huawei p50 doesn’t have OIS in main 50mp camera but... moreNo wayyy, the specs said it has. And mate 40 pro doesn't have OIS for an £1000+ phone which is unfortunate, but the results were still excellent though

Mihail White, 01 Aug 20213,5x zoom compare to last year's 10x ? :( No tnxOptical zoom is an disadvantage sometimes, especially in terms of space eaten, lowlight, and steadyness. Huawei's high resolution sensor may make up for it though. As even S21 can provide 3x hybrid zoom loseless, so Huawei may be able to provide 10X hybrid zoom loseless too. Also, thanks to the shorter focal length, it is now even more flexible

                Huawei will soon be history.
Their marketshare declined significantly, even in their home country of China

In China, Mi 11 Ultra easily kills this phone, no debate at all. Screen is superior, design is preferable, cameras are equal, charging and battery is equal, software and 5g is more superior on Xiaomi, while it is actually Cheaper. WTF??? Huawei is overpricing their phones again and again. If they want to attract customers, they need to price it like Xiaomi. I am also curious to see if the 50 MP sensor is different from the P40 ones since the names are different, also, curious to see if the 13 MP Ultrawide is an crappy Ultrawide like in most flagships void of Oppo, Oneplus and Vivo

Camera-wise and based on my real life experience (and this is purely my opinion) with a few recent android flagships - the P40Pro took the best picture and video overall compared to S20ultra, Note 20 ultra and the Mi11Ultra. It even beats the Mate 40 Pro, hands down. It was a bit of a regret that I replaced the P40Pro with the Mate 40 Pro.

Unfortunately, the new camera setup of P50 Pro doesnt excite at all, and sorry, but the back panel design is just too ugly.

John, 02 Aug 2021Pros of buying the vanilla P50: - Flat screen - Cheaper ... moreI should make some correction about that 40MP ultrawide camera, the vanilla P40 doesn't have it. But even when you compare the vanilla P50 against the P40 Pro and the Mate 40 Pro because they all have tje same 5x zoom periscope telephoto camera, you get the sense that the P50 is a redressed Mate 40 Pro with a Snapdragon chipset.

Pros of buying the vanilla P50:
                        - Flat screen
                        - Cheaper
                        - Shares the same main and ultrawide camera as the Pro variant

Pros of buying the Pro P50:
                        - 64MP periscope telephoto sensor
                        - Choice between Snapdragon and Kirin (although I have a sneaky suspicion that it could be a region-specific chipset)

Hmmm... I would incline of taking the vanilla P50 but it still use the same 50MP main camera sensor from the Mate 40 series and even the P40 series. Even the P40 series has a much larger 40MP ultrawide camera.

                                      Kirin without any doubt.

The p40 pro got castrated of Gmail app, YouTube, chrome browser and Google drive so I suppose its the same story with this ? Cannot use a phone without these features. Only good thing about this phone is the camera, but I cannot backup my pictures to Google drive from it so its worthless. If you were living in China it wouldn't matter since they don't really use Google services over there, just their government sponsored apps and storage. No thank you.
