aReefer, 31 Jul 2021PSU should be fine. It's not super high output, but it... moreI would also recommend trying another PSU. Wattage-wise you shouldn't run into problems with such an energy-efficient GPU (uses like 150W while gaming), but AMD recommends a 550W PSU for that GPU. That wattage amount requirement is there to make sure that even a very cheap, not-so-good PSU of 550W would be able to run the system... A properly working, quality 450W unit shouldn't have issues.

Greed that'll literally end up killing us all. But hey, these shill gadget bloggers running these sites are happy to get early access to reviews and keynotes, to not talk about the real problems.

AnonD-889996, 30 Jul 2021Remember when you can get good 1080p GPU for less than $300?Still using one, and it was one of the best entertainment purchases to date. Still runs all the games I want to play smoothly at 1440 (4k makes little sense over prioritizing a smoother frame rate.)

Honestly if someone could grab one for $300 today it's still probably worth it compared to buying from a scalper.

It was a new system with no previous installations.

I'm actually getting "Malformed command" errors from the Driver as well. That and hard reboots.

I just now installed 1.7.2 and didn't try it yet, but I'm not optimistic.

Windows always complains about invalid commands coming from the driver.

I sent in multiple bug reports but it's been like this for a year already.

Very disappointing that they have bugs like this for so long. What is the point of a graphics card that only performs on paper?

                        Never again.

aReefer, 31 Jul 2021I have the previous generation 5600XT. My first Radeon and ... moreI use the driver version 21.6.1 version to keep my system stable and perform as expected. A few drivers back from this version, everything crashed, all the time. Constant driver time-outs, black screens, picture tearing even with FreeSync on, the worst stuttering I've ever seen - all that fun stuff. Almost returned my then brand new GPU, but I tried other driver versions and suddenly way less issues. Kept using an older version until 21.6.1 arrived. And driver features like Enhanced Sync etc. must be disabled, or issues come back immediately... Not as easy experience as it was with nVidia, which was basically plug-and-play.

Also I very much doubt Radeon drivers are so horribly bad as everyone is saying. Or you people haven't used a GeForce for decades. Because ForceWare is also pretty trash, plagued with garbage interface and issues that have been around for many years. I had 3 generations of GeForce cards recently (GTX 980, GTX 1080Ti and now RTX 3080) and they were all plauged by stupid bugs and problems. Not all the time, but I had them often enough that it was very annoying. People who say GeForce is problem free and only Radeon cards are full of problems are lying through their teeth.

I have the previous generation 5600XT. My first Radeon and I have to say that the the name is appropriate as my system is currently about as stable as enriched uranium.

Whenever I try to game, either the game crashes or the entire PC hard-reboots spontaneously. Sometimes after a few seconds in the game, sometimes after an hour or more of gaming, but it eventually happens every time in specific games, like Battlefield 3 (I know, old game but I still play it).

Radeon's software game is rubbish. Their drivers are terrible. I truly regret not getting the 3060 instead. Never had this issue with Nvidia cards.

I'm never getting another Radeon card again. Nothing but frustration.

It's why RTX 3080 and 3090 can have that airflow passthrough at the end. The issue is coolers are so big they extend way past the circuit board. Making them shorter just wouldn't cool the big GPU's good enough.

I've experimented with my RTX 3080 a bit though and thermally limited it to just 65°C and it still ran games ridiculously smoothly with clocks still in the 1500 MHz range and above (stock clocks to some 1900 MHz). The drop in clock didn't really affect performance that much but did thermals which were then locked at 65°C. One could technically make a "RTX 3080 Mini" and just thermally limit it to such temperature so even smaller cooler could keep up with it. Would still be worth it, if it's half the length and only loses 10% in performance.
