No idea why, when finally got rip off the front camera and we can get a clean screen view, yet they just had to add a ultra ugly back camera module to it...

        EXACTLY, which is why diversity is important, NO TECH that have alternatives who bring its own different pros & cons balance should be the only available option.

        iPhone is its own, closed universe, only made by a single brand, and as much as people love to say they are 5 years behind, they are still the one who dictate the designs of other phones, for example, they created the notch and everyone copied it, but since it was never meant to works on Android because of the notifications, they shrunk it until the teardrop notch "re"appear, and they imply kept the camera hole and remove the notch itself which made the punch hole, in the end, punch holes are just overly simplified notches, and while Android OEMs should have kept the notch utility (all the sensors) and just ditch the display intrusion design, they did the opposite, which is a totally stupid decision.
        Had Apple do only two things, they would have crushed Android design and features :
        1) Put Touch ID on the back while waiting (as they are doing) Ultrasonic FPS (or anything better than optical ones) in the display get mature enough.
        2) Make the notch non-accessible to any apps (maybe only have an auto ambient color background) and only display status icons, which rather than making bigger could have stayed the same as with previous ones and been displayed on two horizontal lines, so everything is still displayed.
        Making it effectively an improved bezel, it would have only required a software change, and it would have totally killed it, it would look like any "notch hider" apps :

        *It isn't a very good option, the picture quality will never be good.
        Acceptable? Probably.
        Good? Not without software compensation.
        Perfect? Never.
        *And you can't have good picture and good display quality, it is one or the other.
        *The tech will still, once the real cost get revealed, add a huge price toll, either progressively or after a certain time depending on many factors.
        *It is still the worse tech privacy wise.
        *Having no front camera is still a better option for many people and/or situations.

        Improved? Yes.
        Perfected? Not ever, except the day we will be able to make "holographic camera" able to look through anything and anywhere.
        The time we have the tech to make it "perfect", much better options like computer-brain interface will be available, and it will, by the way, be one of the time people will regret the most to not have taken and advocated the privacy-friendly route, if big country don't turn into 100% surveillance police state and/or dictatorship (more than today I mean) before that.
        People think I live in the past, while actually I think much further than them, and they can't understand that.

These are not really Xiaomi innovations as they are just buying the tech for other companies. That is the same for most companies though. Nextlens for example designed and made the liquid lens and Xiaomi just purchased it from them so the tech is from Nextlens. Most of the innovation in phones are in the chips and screens which are mostly designed and manufactured by third parties except for a few companies. Who is responsible for the technology in the transparent TV all? It will basically all be bought from other companies. There is little innovation from most smartphone companies as most companies just design the phones (some of them as designs are often outsourced to ODMs for midrange and budget phones). Software is probably the biggest area that these companies could potentially bring their own innovation to

It is the screenmakers than are coming up with this underscreen camera tech not the smartphone companies. Realme and Xiaomi certainly don't innovate as they just buy components from others. What they specialise in is providing phones at the most competitive prices and they do that better than their competitors. Xiaomi achieves this by outsourcing the design and manufacture of around 75% of their phones, basically almost all their Redmi phones. Their is no need for large spending on R&D that way.

Any implementation of tech has its pros and cons. Normal selfie cams haven't disappeared and iPhones are stuck with the horrendous notch. The udc is merely an option but it's a very good one and will appear in flagship phones before it trickles down to mid-tier and budget phones. And yes, it'll be perfected.

                  No tech should impose itself to be THE ONLY AVAILABLE OPTION if it HAS DRAWBACKS, and ALL front camera related alternatives have drawbacks except the bezel.
                  How hard was it to understand?

                  And the UDC has the most amount of drawbacks, it is expensive, it gives awful quality, it damages the display quality, biometric will get a 10 years step backward with it, and it is the worse for privacy.
                  Also, this tech will NEVER be perfect, or even "good" for that matter, because regardless how much you improve it, you can't just improve something past physical limits, looking through a solid object is NOT going to give you a clear image, the pixels and their wires aren't gonna magically disappear.

                  And because it is obvious, even without the UDC the phone specs are too high for the price, so where is all the R&D for the UDC?

Tech is built on improvements and innovations of whatever was released before. And the initial release is never perfect, there are always improvements that can be made in subsequent generations of the product.

                          I already wrote it all.

                          One of the main reason is because this thing wants to be THE ONLY new tech, only a PERFECT tech can claim that role, otherwise diversity is ALWAYS the preferred option and what every other markets on the planet have, even toothbrushes and nail clippers have more diversity than smartphones.
                          Basically all markets have products for niches, except smartphones where it used to.

                          Also, the concept itself is stupid AND there are better alternatives like disappearing cameras, and more importantly, it is a privacy nightmare.

                          There are no comparisons, Sony are really high quality and Huawei are top end with much better features than most.
                          Again, the selling at a loss is a typical Chinese strategy that once they dominate a market then have their price skyrocket, look at OnePlus.
                          The sub brands of ZTE Nubia is good and have made great products, ZTE itself not only has a horrible customer support and have been caught doing shady things, but their phones are actually boring.
                          Except the UDC they never did anything remarkable, and they ONLY made it so we would talk about them, exactly like how the Soviets made the horror Tu-144 plane as fast as possible to release it before the Concorde just to claim to be the first to have a supersonic passenger airliner.
                          It is the same thing here, the Oppo Find X2 Pro was already supposed to have UDC, and it wasn't the first, yet, except ZTE who aren't the biggest brand out there, no one has released a single phone with it, and there is a reason for that.

                            An0n, 31 Jul 2021We used to have retractable selfie camera back then in 2018... morePeople hating on them and saying lies about them that in theory are true but actually don't happen in real life, like durability which turned up not an issue at all with 3Yo pop up working like a charm, fragility which also cause almost never an issue as it is actually tough, water and dust which are not an issue, space taken while actually it also isn't an issue at all, thick phones while most of those were average, etc...
                            So it scared people away.
                            And since people were hating anything not trending, OEMs stopped to listen to what users want and simply started to make every phones the same.
                            Ironically, the same who hated on pop up are complaining that I give relevant reasons why I hate the underdisplay camera.

                                Less than a month into having my Poco F2 Pro to replace my OnePlus 6t I already had use of the Jack port, and on multiple occasion since.
                                I am glad I can use natively my Corsair Void Pro all while charging the phone and not have to deal with dongle or charging wireless thingy.

                                  Funnily, you won't praise me for actually defending the ultrasonic FPS when everyone hated it for having its FIRST GENERATION not being great, now that it endup being faster than optical one and much better in the S21 and Meizu 18.

                                  UDC is like squinting really hard to look through a wall, expecting it to improve is just putting glasses on.
                                  Regardless how you improve it, it won't ever reach the same quality that regular camera have, nor it will be a good thing for privacy, ever.
