Fairphone smartphones and the Framework laptop are doing things that puts multi-billion dollar companies to shame. Big tech only speaks the language of money. So I will happily vote for these guys with my wallet.

Aadrian, 14 Aug 2021Fairphine is in the means of sustainability far ahead of an... moreThanks, I will indeed wait for the fairphone 4 5G. I really hope other OEMs will join this mindset and try to focus more on ethics, fairness and ecology. The do not all have to go straight to mines and try to negotiate fair contract for the metals needed. They can also ask actively their customers to freely (or maybe with a small discount coupon) to return their old devices so they can recuperate and recycle the precious materials inside. It would be a business model on its own but immediately linked to the company activities. That would also help a great deal.
I know that the business of recycling old phones is nothing new and is adopted widely but till now I haven't seen it as clear and public part of an OEMs activity (except for Fairphone who does) with an entire service around it.

On Fairphones 3+ at this moment (among others)
I do hope they'll do the same with the Fairphone 4!

Nokia is doing a great job as well given the latest promises (still far behind Fairphone), but the rest is definitely lacking behind, hence their much cheaper products; they don't necessarily take sustainability and/or fair trade source winning in consideration. If I were you, I would wait for the Fairphine 4 5G. With easy repairs if needed, you can easily go forward with the new phone for 6 or 7 years at least.

Is FairPhone still supporting the FairPhone 1 & 2 ?
If so a slightly better sustainability rating if not then it is just an expensive low spec phone.

Fairphone 3 and 3+ are not compact phones even tough they have 5.65inch screen size. Fairphone 3 and 3+ physical phone size 158 x 71.8 x 9.9 mm. It's pretty much the same size that my Redmi note 5 AI dual cam is with 5.99 inch screen 158.6 x 75.4 x 8.1 mm

I'm more and more into this concept. As I'm not the guy that chases the most powerful and fanciest phone this phone seems right for me. It goes much further than Nokia does with its most recent 3 3 3 strategy to boost longevity and as such kind of promotes an eco mindset attached to it. So two nice brands to continue watching (Nokia and Fairphone). For now I'm still having a doubt between buying the Fairphone 3 or 3+ right now or wait a bit for the Fairphone 4... I think the last one is even more future proof given the "5g" addition to it. So still waiting a bit and using my mind instead of my heart before buying.

I wish Fairphone would have an option to buy phone in bits like Lego's at lower price. Assembling them costs money and workforce, why not offset it on users. So you assemble those few basic bits together yourself. If that means lower price, I think it should be interesting.

I wonder if Fairphone will use a chipset with an external 5G modem or a chipset with an integrated 5G modem. Nevertheless, really looking forward to this great news.

What I like about this is that it is easy to repair. Not sure if the quality of phone or components is as good as my current phone which is still going after years of abuse
