Well, I totally agree, though the reason I took the Magic 2 3D as an example was because it has 3D face recognition, and while I would take a slider over a notch, punch hole or underdisplay camera anyday, I still think a slider for the sole purpose of only a front camera is overkill, with extra sensors it makes it worth it though.

I still use mine, and have zero desire on getting a punch hole/notch screen next. Those and curved displays are things I hope to avoid in whatever my next main phone will be.

              this is experimental tech, bro
of course it's expensive, have you considered the engineering needed to put stylus support, a better hinge, water resistance and UDC, let alone that needed to make a folding phone in first place?
it's even cheaper this time, too ...

AnonD-762416, 17 Aug 2021It's for video calls, the big screen. It's not fo... moreWhich is totally useless as there are also the much better, main cameras there, or at least a simple bezel would be a much better solution since the display is already narrower than any typical smartphone display, but a punch hole on the second display is totally crazy.

And well, why, while video calls have bad quality already, having them done with the big display anyway?
It doesn't justify all the issues UDC cause, it can perfectly be done with the smaller display.
At least on foldable, ok, I get the point, the main display is big, so better use it, but on all other phones? Really?

Just yeet the front camera, like the Nubia Z20 did and NOT a tiny display like the Mi 11 Ultra which is way too small, if people want so much to do video call on big display, the size difference won't change much, either people accept that smartphones aren't that big to begin with, or they use tablets or laptops...

In the end, a foldable phone would better do away with the front camera and have a manual mechanism a bit like the flip up that allow the Wide and Ultra-wide cameras to be aimed to the front.

And yes I've had enough to say "make SOME phones with X or Y features" as people are too arrogant to allow someone else to have something he wants, so I talk generally now.

                            https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-under-display-camera-phone-1188611/

ALL, and I insist on ALL, show no visibility issues whatsoever on the display nor degrade it in any visible ways.
ALL of those allow to have 100% normal pictures with low quality.
Again, ALL of those also allow for front camera related privacy, the Oppo Find X also hide the main cameras when not in use, both protecting the lenses and giving an extra layer of privacy.
And, all except the wrap around display, wireless camera and Flip up (at least the way Asus did it) are cheaper and easier to make (though, even those are cheaper compared to foldable phones), have no issue of first gen giving low quality or whatnot, and except the last being wrap around, wireless camera and disappearing cameras, they've all proven their worth more than enough already.

That's why, with so many alternatives, mainly the disappearing camera being the same thing minus the cons and with actual pros, I don't understand why everyone is SO obsessed with this, why everyone thinks only about it who literally haven't a single aspect without BIG cons...
This almost looks more like brainwashing that hype at this level.

It is 4MP, but has huge pixels to let more light come through, at 2.0um. It is the same size HTC used in its One series and called UltraPixels. It might actually work in this use case.
