Hemedans, 24 Aug 2021Depend with Hdd/ufs storage. Fastest HDD can reach 520MBps ... moreSequential read speed means nearly nothing if you use the drive as swap. The biggest factors are latency and IOPS (mostly read, but some writing in between) where the seemingly fast drives get beaten badly by overall slower but snappier "lower class" storage. HDD's are more than two orders magnitude slower in latency despite the rapid sequential reads. In flash storages the picture is somewhat mixed. And if you calculate in the caches and the "firmware magic" inside the flash controllers, some phone simply "lie" in the benchmarks about its maximum speed using write and read cache in memory. But in a real situation where you are out of memory or the data is seemingly random, they tend to crawl back significantly. It's not that simple unfortunately. And the manufacturers don't publish such data of course. :) So yes, faster storage is good, but YMMV.

Thank God they heard my suggestion of the next update , atleast they gave us a RAM expansion instead of giving us a 90hz refresh rate.

WOW. I used to have zram and swap file on storage back in the Android 2.3 days on a 256 MB RAM device... And now it is coming back?!?

I don't see what's so special about this gimmick. We've been using this technique in UNIX-like OSes and Windows for decades now.

Now we have faster NAND storage, but RAM also upgraded from DDR1 to LPDDR5. Even budget smartphones now a days have lpddr4x which is much faster than today's flagship NAND storage.

Older ufs 2.0 had just 256MBps of sequential write speed, ufs 3.0 had around 450MBPS and ufs 3.1 can surpass 1GBps

So unless you have latest Ufs 3.1 there is Big chance your phone is slower than some HDD.
