Nokia being as huge as it was meant that it was a slow death - but all the signs were there that Nokia's time at the top is over.

Had N97 when the phone appears in the market. First i have loved the phone, which was with touch display, big screen, good camera and so on, but after couple of months of use i realized that the phone is slow, buggy, the resistive screen was so outdated, the camera was average, there was so little apks to download, the build in keyboard was difficult to use. But it still was a Nokia flagship. Then the android phones and Iphones were getting more and more capable and superior than Nokia phones and that was the end of Nokia`s era. My next model was a Galaxy S2 and it was huge upgrade after the N97.

Nokia N97 was better than iPhone 3G of the same year - 2008. "

Better how? N97 was huge brick, iPhone 3G was very compact smartphone. iPhone 3G was really smooth and intuitive to use and looked very modern, N97 was slow and super laggy and looked very outdated. Maybe N97 was more advanced in ways people never found out because the user experience sucked so much.

2008 when other leading brands Sony, Samsung, LG, Htc, Motorola moved to android OS & Nokia decided to acquire outdated symbian OS & started to loose the market during crucial period 2008-2011 concentrating keypad mobile.. Microsoft realized that & installed their executive Stephen elop as Nokia CEO to push windows OS.. Anyways Nokia lost the smartphone race before they start doing Lumia windows phones..

Buy a decent Samsung phone and enjoy. Minimum specs - 7 series Snapdragon processor - 6GB Ram - 128GB UFS storage - Good camera with 4K video recording - 4000 MAH battery - Full HD 90HZ display...

Windows Phone was and still is the best looking mobile operating system so far. The interface was smooth and organized and rarely did it lag or stutter, unlike android of then. The lack of popular apps is what caused it's failure and they could have fixed that with android apps compatibility. Perhaps that could have saved it

              1. Nokia was never North America major player, even when Symbian was at peak and superior to other os, American Used Black berry and homegrown solutions, using America as standard to measure N9 doesn't make sense.

              2. N9 was as competitive as 2011 flagship both software and Hardware. It was first phone to introduce polycarbonate material unibody, had 64 GB storage compare to 16/32GB competitor used, probably best ppi at that time, 1gb ram etc.

If Nokia stuck with the N9 instead of forcing Lumia they could still be in the game.

It wasn't apple who killed nokia. It was Nokia themselves who killed Nokia.
Nokia was a name back then my god .
Buying Nokia for people like me was same as buying q tesla today.
I really wish Apple dies someday cuz they're already following Nokia's footsteps; it's only they don't have any superior competitors. We need 3rd OS in the game!!

But, iPhone 3G was just the beginning.
It's Lumia who try to compete with the later iPhone, not Symbian.

kek, 29 Aug 2021I am always amazed how far marketing campaigns can go into ... moreStop with this silly "marketing" nonsense. The first iPhone user experience was like nothing else I had had before.

I never liked Nokias (although I had been keeping an eye on the cutesy MeeGo), and I had been using mostly Windows, running on top-end HTC handsets. The iPhone changed my idea of a phone. And many other people's idea of a phone.

It was sleek, much sleeker than Android back then, or anything else. It was a joy to use, even with its limitations. I didn't want to go back, and neither did most consumers.

In the end, the market spoke and iOS and Android won, while Symbian and Windows lost, and MeeGo was never a player.

Marketing is not magic and it can't same a non-competitive product, as Nokia and Windows Mobile showed. Or do you think they didn't know how to market and didn't try?

The stylus operated Motorola and Sony Ericsson Symbian phones were awesome.

Ah yes, the N series...the good/bad old days. I hated my N97 mini, with its half baked symbian touch operating system, but absolutely loved my N900 running maemo (and latterly meego) but alas, Nokia couldn't get its act together, Stephen Elop had no idea what he was doing, and it all fell apart.

The iPhone 4 antenna issue was over hyped. Mostly it worked just fine and there was a software issue that miscalculated the actual signal strength and made the signal look worse than it was in the UI, which was quickly fixed.
