Wish more RnD could go into developing batteries that can hold charge for longer

developing the chip means copying it

Anonymous, 02 Sep 2021RGGB, RYYB, WRGB etc can be paired with any ISP. Do not f... moreIt's worth mentioning that just because a certain ISP "can be paired" with sensors with other CFA patterns, that doesn't necessarily mean it is optimised for them.
For the P30 series, Huawei's first phones with an RYYB sensor, they used Kirin 980 whose ISP had clearly been designed with demosaicing of Bayer/Quad Bayer RGB CFA in mind. They ended up suffering from chromatic aberrations and minor colour artifacts (although they did manage to mitigate them through numerous software updates) as a result. Half a year later they announced Mate 30 series along with Kirin 990 which pretty much solved those issues - you get my point.

A note to all phone manufacturers: There's a cut off point in terms of upselling image quality due to optical physics. Please do ergonomics again.

Two year development time is nothing. They either took something that existed and worked on it to serve specific purpose or they just made some hot garbage.

Do not forget older phones with WRGB sensors. Huawei was not only one using few years ago.

I guess Vivo needs the custom ISP for RGBW demosaicing.. I highly doubt SD888's built-in ISP is optimised for this task.

It is a attempt, none knows if it is gonna work better than the ISP from the cpu.

I wonder what the point is with all these custom extra dedicated ISP chips.
Qualcomm and whatever always talk big game about the ISPs inside their platforms.. what's the need to use yet an external one? the built in one isnt good enough?

notafanboy, 02 Sep 2021I don't care about their ISP, I just want better zoom.... moreI think it's a good thing. More innovation is welcome. Current android phones from big brands like Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi have almost zero hardware innovation from the companies themselves (maybe with the exception of Vivo's gimbal tech) Look at the Mi 11 ultra, the find x3 Pro, the Oneplus 9pro. All the key components are from third parties. With Huawei banned it's time for some other big brands to try and bring some hardware innovation to the table. Otherwise they are all basically just stacking the same core hardware from the same suppliers with little to differentiate them

interesting... vivo is up for the innovation, while their fellow bbk, like oneplus, seem to be settling...
we need a brand like this after lg went out and xperia are too few...

                          From 13MP 1/3" to 8MP (1/4" or 1/5") when it has same 135mm.

I don't care about their ISP, I just want better zoom. 8MP periscope on a flagship is a joke!! GARBAGE!!!
