Samsung is falling in line with Apple's and Google's mentality, becoming evil as well.
Big Tech are all colluding with the help of governments. They need each other to implement the totalitarian globalist brave new world. WEF was never kidding about Agenda 2030:

17 millions sounds like a lot of money but its just crumbles for company like this.
And even if the fine will be just one dollar or KRV they will refuse to pay it.
Because amrecians love to ove money but hate to pay.

to be fair google is not wrong. Samsung and lg would make poop android. but maybe thats ok. the free market would perhaps sort it out.

the hardware is where its a real issue imo. there isnt real competition outside of apple samsung google and xiaomi.

also on china tawain and south korea knows how to make the hardware. western nations in their competiton for greed lost the capability.

Can I sue south Korea for the pixel 6 not out yet with this hardship no wonder it's taking longer #suesouthkorea

Google's motto used to be "Don't be evil." Now they are always evil and just a bunch of online influencers for leftists censoring conservatives on YouTube.

I used to despise Samsung. Now I'm all-in with them. I might only buy Samsung phones in this decade. The stuff Google has been doing especially making Android more closed and all the spying is ridiculous. They've become an evil company like Apple has been.

JustSomeRandomGuy, 14 Sep 2021this article is utter garbage. it lacks the main purpose wh... more"""it lacks the main purpose why the AFA was implemented by Google in the first place. It is meant to reduce the rampant fragmentation of Android."""

Not really, they made AFA just to keep OEMs from releasing custom systems with google stuff inside, AS article mention.

"""remember, this dates back from 2011, the early years of Android where fragmentation was everywhere."""

It was mostly due to Google it self, I just remind you that in that time Google had brilliant idea of separating android for tablets(honeycomb) that was huge failure.

"""but look how many phones got the update and for how long until they received said update, if any at all? compared to iOS, Android version distribution was a hot mess"""

Its actually due to laws forced by EU and other countries that forced google to be more secure and "environmental friendly" by keeping old phones useful and protected.

"""it has been much better since then with Project Treble and similar efforts to it." ""

It was due to Android community and OBVIOUS problems with android core that Google tried to fix for like beginning of Android, it was normal flow of things that would happen anyway with new hardware showing up every year.

"""OEMs are now updating their phones much longer and much more timely, presumably, thanks to policies and changes set by Google."""

Nope, again. Pushing updates was due to EU and specific countries that forced OEMs to keep phones secure.

"""but notice anything since then? Android became much more locked down and less modified. it's annoying, for sure, but it is the price to pay for timely updates"""

Not really, its pretty simple to keep phones open and updated, its just that OEMs use their specific software inside devices and they just dont want people to mess with it.

Also with every year there is less and less reason to unlock and root phones as OEMs implement most of custom features inside system it self(and its one of reason why they dont like when you mess with it). Also truth is that modding devices are like less than 5% of Android devices, its just when you sit in that community its look like everyone have root and modded devices, but in reality most of people dont even know what root is
