Weekly poll: how important is a high refresh rate screen to you?

26 September 2021
It's a feature that gets heavily advertised, but do users actually care?

Sort by:

Tried 120hz, no difference in most cases, except 2 games I played, and it gave me a headache in those 2 games.

Pretty much the most useless feature on the phone. Havong 120hz is no difference than having 60hz. You can tell me whatever you want, but there is no difference and I can't see one. Yeah yeah, games my ass. People need help if they waste all day playing some competitive games on a phone, when you can do that much better experience on the console or PC, so no your points are completely useless to argue with me :)

I had really old low range phone before (obviously 60 Hz), and when I moved to Xperia 5 II, I thought I was going to be absolutely blown away, but... When I started using it, I had to check a couple of times if it really is set to 120Hz because it really was not the bomb I thought it would be.

The 120Hz became pretty much a standard on all high and most mid range Android phones these days so it would be hard to find one with 60 Hz if one tried to.

game is alive with 120Hz, almost like real objects inside the phone. but the support is rather poor with my phone. I've seen true 120fps on Grimvalor and Sky Force

Rysenchi, 28 Sep 2021Apple’s A series Bionic chips are faster than Qualcomm’s or... moreI like how you compared to my 300$ android when I don't even have a 300$ Android. The stereotype that Apple users compare their iPhones only to budget androids is still true I guess.

And no, a 60hz iPhone 13 isn't smoother than a phone that costs 1/8th of it that has 120hz. Clearly you've never seen them side by side because if you did you wouldn't defend Apple's use of 60hz display.

In the end these are just phones with mobile OS, you don't need the most powerful core to power the UI, any modern entry level processor is enough to get a smoother experience than the most powerful phones with 60hz displays.

iPhone 13/Mini only exist to upsell the 13 Pro/Max. The 13/Mini is for those that care about the brand logo and value.

The performance and smoothness is real my friend. Many times faster and smoother than your 300 dollar Android.

The myth that iPhones are smoother exists because the general consumer isn't aware of specs.

My friend using an iPhone was shocked few years ago when my phone next to his iphone made his latest iphone look sluggish. He's going to buy the iPhone 13 this year.

Apple is a lifestyle brand and people pay for the brand and Apple knows it. In my country, phones that cost 1/8th of the iPhone 13 have 120hz displays. Imagine have a significantly worse experience with thicker bezels and big notch despite paying 8 times as much on a phone where we carry around everyday and scroll a lot. What's the point of a fast processor if the display itself is slow as hell?

for whatever reason, the poll said I already voted despite me opening this article for the first time so I couldn't participate

anyway, 120 Hz LTPO is the sweet spot, imo. been using the ROG Phone 2 for a almost a year now and I cannot go back to anything less than 120 Hz. 90 Hz, maybe? but 120 Hz should be the gold standard. heck! give me 165 Hz, I'll take that. going back to 60 Hz feels sluggish even iPhones. as what MKBHD said, higher refresh rates all the way

Thats the last thing I care about... 60 is good enough. Battery more important to me.

IOS is the one that has traditionally hidden itself behind longer animation times and lightweight OS where apps were frozen in the background with no scope for true multitasking.
