Its very simple. Size and Portability matter a lot. Note 2 bigger than s3 but lesser portable than s3.
I guess this could be a reason. Both the phones are superb but note 2 is seriously a monster smartphone.

I've had my note from since last year, came with GB out of the box and I updated to ICS recently(still unrooted). It works just as how I bought it last year October.
It doesnt lag because background apps which causes lag(still not noticeably slow lag but it adds up) are killed off when needed. My note does it automatically with memory booster but I do it manually sometimes.
About practicality, I would say that I wouldn't have any other phone than this one with the spen. I believe that most of the owners of the note/note II don't even use the spen except to draw attention to themselves(talk about ego). The elite few(like moi :P) cant do without it. I use the pen whenever something cool comes to mind that would quickly be forgotten, to take down short notes, give directions(circle landmarks and send them), play games that need the spen to interact(crayon physics is so simple but AWESOME, try it some time and you'll see). I also use it to write my grocery list xD
Now portability, it loses hands down in that category....COMPARED TO ALL SMARTPHONES OUT THERE. That doesnt mean half a crab's arse that it wont fit in your pocket. I carry my note in my pocket easy and I wear fitted(NOT SKINNY) jeans most of the time, when I'm not then im wearing cargos which is even better :P
The twisted part I dislike is after one of my friends took a hands on with my note, he couldnt go back. This year the guy sold his sony xperia S(not even a year old LOL) and I had to lend him some money so he could buy.....say what?.....the galaxy note II biach! >: ) The 2nd version to the phone he laughed at last year with a first glance.
Up to now he still couldnt get over the fact that I lent him money to buy something he technically said was "impractical". Speaking of which, you said something about practicality? lol

So they always try to copy everything from apple. They thought they wil overtake the business of iPod, so they release the "floppest thing of the millenium": Zune. Microsoft just jealous of apple they rebranded their Windows Mobile to Windows Phone seeing i"Phone". The first Windows Phone OSes were just a cheap copy cut of iOS where users just couldnt do anything exactly the same way of iOS. but microsoft isnt apple. I heard alot about Windows 8's metro to modern Touch UI came from the inspiration of the sales of iPads. So brainless microsoft guys thought alot nd made a new os. I dont wana say anything about Windows, MS Office, IE, xbox - these stuffs are go0d. But if microsoft wishes to fight against iOS they will just destroy themselves and suffer in the long run. So bad news for Surface, Windows Phone, Zune. Windows Phone 8 is a cheap mockup of iOS+Android. Developers arent so interested about "copycut" oses. So all the top developers releases their first app for "iOS" and then "Android".

i m very much nokia fan.920 sold 2.5m not declared by nokia though comment is alomost 400, but note2 sold above 5m only comment 53. how bad is dat. but one thing in lumia comment 60% or above comment by android fan. in note 2 comment i think i m the only one other fan comment it. good luck for note2.

NOKIA is the first one to use polycarbonate in their phones starting with the N9. UNLOCKED Lumia 920 is not cheap, its actually more expensive than the UNLOCKED Note 2 here in UK! $450 price is only in US, due to carrier exclusivity with at&t. meaning its LOCKED, thats why you can buy it cheap! get it?

The note 2 is the best phone out theire it has everything you ned so i dont wonder that samsung sold five million units of this device i have my note 2 since the end of september and iam very satisfigth its really the best device here you got bang for you money

First of all, no Apple products have active digitizers with pressure-sensitive styluses (and they themselves said "the stylus needs to die"). The Note pretty much REVOLVES AROUND THIS CONCEPT. And it's a lot more closer to PDA/TabletPC than to a 500$ Internet-enabled Paperweight that is the iPad.
Second of all, the Note series came out way before the iPad mini.
