I think 8 cores is too much. Why? Because its more powerful than a pc or a laptop.

So much powerin such a small screen

Its a bigLITTLE configuration.. 4xA15 cores and 4xA7 cores.. so its a power efficient quad core soc
.. its mostly the A7 cited that r at work... its only wile running power hungry tasks like heavy games, that the A15 cores start to work.. this way u enjoy the power efficiency of the A7 and the super processing power of the A15..

AnonD-70209, 26 Nov 2012Running Android no doubt. I blame Google for this onslaught... moreIt's not only about running the OS.

IT's about multitasking and varying usages.

IOS focuses on one task at a time, Android doesn't which makes low grades phones appearing as laggy.

Nowadays usages differ between people, that "power under the hood" is welcomed for doing ever more with a smartphone. Not everyone is only checking his emails/FB/twitter accounts. We watch videos, record them, edit them even, full HD ones when you have a powerful enough phone (not an Apple) and soon Ultra HD ones, and guess what i doubt many quadys will be able to play them smoothly.

Mobile gaming market is growing so power is needed just like PC's for pushing so many pixels smoothly on a 1080P screens without counting AI.

In same time, we want to keep browsing, listening to music, checking messages, calendar, process bigger pictures and documents, running various apps and of course, being able to call.

But i don't want to teach you what you can do with good processing power in your pocket, it's up to you to follow or not.

Now everyone sue the 8 core Cpus that they are waste of ressources and quad cores are more than enough..

in 2014 everyone will again say " why 16 cores ? 8 cores are more than enough.."

technology developing faster than before, software is trying to catching up with the hardware platform and to integrate new features what these new SoCs provide

I'll not debate to those who say that we don't need faster phone here, but I don't think 8 core is a nice solution in 2013. I know that maybe it's just false rumor or misunderstood news that other 4 core is just power-saving core.
I think quadcore A15 is the way to go next year. Plus better GPU with more hardware acceleration support function.

Running Android no doubt. I blame Google for this onslaught of cores coming in smartphones. Because they didn't optimize their OS to make EFFICIENT use of hardware, we're now faced with an inflation of new devices trying to win a specs race, that no phone should be running in the first place. What the hell does a phone need 4 or 8-core CPU's for? I'm not an Apple fan, but I can appreciate their refined OS. iPhone's on single cores perform better than any Android phone on 4-cores, pre-Jellybean update. This is getting ridiculous now, and will only drive the cost of phones up, as research and manufacturing costs will rise. Because of the incompetence of Google and inadequacies to code decent, responsive software, we're faced with this ridiculous spec race.

                  Thanks again Google.

Off course you can drain your battery in 1 day with any phone while watching movies continusly with screen on.

But don't you think that if companies release them, it's mainly because it's marketable?

don't think the article is correct on GSM Arena. other sites mention 8 A7 cores.
on a different note, why 8 cores, when A15 Architecture is only now being used. rather do A15 dual and Quad Core chips and optimize battery and CPU usage, maybe up the RAM Etc. 8 Cores, whether Cortex A7, A9, A15 or A57 based would all be a waste if the power is not utilized properly.
