Droid, 30 Nov 2012A factory reset is simple and save.
Never voids you warran... moreSee my point? They are bringing out 8 core cpu chipsets! That's 8 freaking cores - my desktop PC is running a quadcore intel 6600 chipset - I think it was the first intel quad core back then...and I don't feel the need to upgrade anytime soon, maybe get a new video card, I don't know. Why do you need such processing power on a 4-5'' screen? Just so poorly designed Android can keep up with its bad ram and process management? And let's talk about app autostart for a moment.
Being an android user, you sure have flashed MIUI at some point? If so, you know there is the app autostart manager. There you can control which apps start on boot. And let me tell you - every app boots by default on phone start. Yeah, it is probably on the background or hidden process layer, I am not sure (correct me if I'm wrong), but still surely uses up ram. And that sucks. Now, you can change background process limit, force gpu rendering, lower the window/transition animation scales and whatnot...But why should you even bother with this stuff? In WP or iOS it just works perfectly smooth right out of the box!
If I get more into multimedia I would upgrade my desktop, but for now most stuff run perfectly well on 6 years old hardware. Why am I posting this non-relevant stuff? Well because you see the same pattern in Apple products for instance. Their latest mobile OS runs perfectly smooth with all apps working very well on 4 years old hardware. The only reason they put powerful GPUs there is for graphic intensive games to perform well.

Anonymous, 30 Nov 2012Great post... But to bad. Androids fans just wanna cheap s... moreNo, android users and most phone manufacturers are sensible and realise it's a phone so not worth stupid money. Unlike apple and their snobby users that think paying top bucks gets you the best thing on the market - news flash: it doesn't, it just means you are paying almost double for something that is not the best thing on the market!

GSMARENA, please overhaul your comments section! Seriously, I quite oftern ready websites like yours, but when I want to see what people think about an article I'm virtually forced to go to The Verge, Engadget or whatnot.
Even the comments system that you have on your blog is a hundred times better. Why not implement it here as well?

Never voids you warranty. But you'll notice the smoothness is back to normal again.
4.3 is the lag fix now until 5 is out.
Google never claimed 4.1 or 4.2 were lag fixes, UI interface improvements yes, but features first.
5.0 (5.1) will have you running back from the dual core WP. Just you wait. 2013 and with 8 cores running Android 5 will make iOS look like the laggy OS along with WP then.
8 cores + 2GB RAM 1080p screens with 5.1 Android is
a desktop powerhouse.
tEGRA 4 will be show boating soon.
heard they have a hardware touch processor to help to stop the lag build into the tegra 4 chip to improve touch responsive delay. tegra 3 did, but in 4 will be better.
NVIDIA DirectTouch™ * - This is a patent-pending architecture that improves touch responsiveness and reduces power consumption by offloading a portion of the touch processing onto the Tegra 3 processor
My HOX+ has this, but isn't been used yet I think.
When Nvidia release this for android to use.
Lag will be gone!

Anonymous, 30 Nov 2012IMO. A phone should out of the box.
if HOX+ cant even do... moreJust wait for Android 5 with the sense 5.
Should be smooth until 5.1 is out.
if you don't like getting ROOT access that is.
I like to show my support for HTC but would never complain about Sense to them.
Not really there fault

Droid, 30 Nov 2012HOX+ is the best. Ok so sense is still laggy, even with ... moreYou are very wrong, Sir. Let me tell you something - except power users, who make up a very small portion of the general user base, noone wants or even SHOULD flash custom roms (voiding very often their warranty, mind you), do factory resets, flash custom kernels and whatnot. I have done this for 3 years now and come to realize that it is just a huge waste of time, simply not worth it. Android is just poorly built when it comes to RAM and process management. This is why it relies on quadcores and even then lags! And this is also the reason why I'm moving to WP8 or iOS which both work hands down much smoother and seem much more polished. And don't tell me Jelly Bean got the lag sorted - oh you said it yourself actually, it didn't! The one x still lags. And I can't stress this enough, as it seems droid fanboys don't get it - NOONE WANTS TO FLASH ANYTHING ON THEIR PHONE! They just want a seemless user experience. A phone that does not lag, freeze, stutter...Just talk to your friends (not the nerdy ones) and they will tell you. Heck, even my programmer friends choose iOS over android, because they as software devs know the value of decent software and also don't want to spend hours and hours on optimizing their damn phone. Just my 2 cents.
