That way you can stack and bin the pixels too, the result, usage scenarios and time it takes is mostly not worth, at least not for most of pics taken.
Processing is another thing, sometimes its better sometimes not, depends on brands and product/sw.
Point of computational photography in phones is to bring fullframe like quality by processing multiple pictures, multiple pixels, using multiple sensors(monochrome-, color-,..), AI and whatever more in thin body of that phone.
Sony does like opposite, truly prehistoric.

Think about added lenses like they are speedboosters. They have the same issues, you're adding additional glass (that is probably sub-par quality wise). I also doubt that any company like Moment will make lenses for companies like Sony, they won't sell well if it's not for a popular brand/phone. We'll see how Sony improves the camera in the future.

There is an alternative by using external camera lens, like moment lens, maybe they can make a mounting like gopro mod. But will it sell? How big should they invest for the lens production? that's another problem

So in the meantime, faux bokeh are the most preferrable choice by any phone manufacturer

Plus, no harm for companies in actually trying natural bokeh. They're doing a somewhat acceptable job, aren't they? This 1 inch sensor looks good so far.

Try to be more creative next time :). Sony should've aimed for what I said, since they are trying to make it as close to a camera as they can.

"all recycled paper and no plastic for the packaging" I really liked that.hope this concept is adopted with other major brands real soon.besides, removing charging brick does cause excessive paper and plastic use due to online purchases.

Getting ugly and ugly design. And I don't really like ITS UI ... Mine is Xperia 1ii but I am really bored

Meaning with bigger sensor, you can have more depth of field even with smaller aperture (f2 smaller than f1.4). Now 1 inch sensor is considered big for smartphone, i think f2 is good enough

Mi 11 ultra can be bought from 730 bucks and is equal to this new Sony or maybe even better.

That 1.0-inch type imager is taken straight off the company's very popular RX100 VII compact camera, but it has been 'optimized for a smartphone'. What that means is that the Xperia Pro-I uses a big chunk of that sensor (but not all of it) to produce 12MP images with a 2.4µm pixel pitch - that's some 20% larger than the iPhone 13 Pro Max' pixels and about the same size as those from the Galaxy S21 Ultra's main camera, after binning. So despite not using the full 1.0-inch sensor area, the Xperia Pro-I does end up with a huge sensor only really bested by the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra and its 2.8µm binned pixels.

Copied from GSM Arena post from yesterday.

IMO, 2.0 is a... moreOnly if you're shooting landscape, most phone owners take pictures of people (aka portraits). Therefore, a faster aperture is a must on a phone. Sony placed a ToF sensor for the added depth effect, but it sucks compared to actual bokeh that is produced by the lens. I own a 1-inch camera, and the difference between f2.0 and f1.8 or faster is huge. Also, they added the ability to stop down the lens in order to get more sharpness and overall improvements to the image when shooting landscape etc, so there's no need to make the fastest aperture... not really fast. f2.0 isn't bad, but also not amazing. And 1-inch sensors aren't big enough to either be super good at low light, or make the background more out of focus. Overall, I'm hoping for improvements in the future.
