Harsh conditions require certain radical measures and am totally not surprised at this move.Nokia is in a very dicey situation and i do hope all the strategies that have been employed pay off...business is business,away with sentiments...good!

The biggest blunder that Nokia's ever done was when they allow Microsoft to takeover and made WP their primary OS. They could just have remained "open" and just adopt other OS. They could be doing Android by now. Look at Samsung, they're reaping profits from devices with Android and yet not going full blast on WP.
Nokia could have harness Symbian and incorporate it with the latest hardware demand like full hd display. There's still a huge Symbian fan base.

Just to put things into perspective Nokia sells its HQ for 170 million, while Apple has 85 billion in cash, I mean wow... just wow. I really hope Nokia survives... besides the obvious blow to Europe, theres just too much crap is coming out of Asia.

it is time for nokia to go for plan B after seeing the quarterly result. i am a diehard fan of nokia .i am using nokia phones since 1999 and i tell u i never get a single defect in my phones , never visited nokia customer care.there feature phones are best in the world . wishing good luck to nokia that they come out with a good strategy. and elop i must say you destroyed nokia just f888k off

That's just a necessary process when available. The point of owning a smartphone is increase productivity (or entertainment while on the go). If an os version satisfies that already then I don't care if there's no more updates to come. When time comes I want to upgrade I will buy a new phone.

When Nokia jumped on the WP bandwagon for some $250 million from Microsoft, it was obvious that the company was struggling financially and also they had lost grip over the smartphone situation.
Nokia sold their soul when they killed Meego. Selling the HQ was easier.

I would have picked a Nokia Android phone anytime and know lots of people who would have done the same.
Phone makers that offer both Android and Windows earn money from their Android phones and practically nothing from their Windows phones.

And samsung's many products were damn good and were better than many nokias. Same goes for some products of sony ericsson. Good hardware now available everywhere. And u may say lumia 920's hardware is great but at the same time it is a stupid heavyweight bulky device for many people. Whatever samsung's galaxy series isnt seeing any premium design and build quality but I think its great and better than any nokia phone.

I think WP8 is gonna be successful(Though not much in comparison to Android) as the interface is innovative , unique in design and provides some unique features though it lacks some when compared to android.
Its just a matter of choice some like the look of android , some like ios , some like windows phones.
I think WP8 and WP 7.8 platform will help Nokia gain some market share .
But it would have been better for Nokia if it still supported Symbian and Meego platforms along with Windows phone platform.
I just bought a Lumia 510 and i love it , WP7.5 is fast and fluid and browsing is great in the device , would be great to get WP 7.8 update as soon as possible.
I like android too , but most companies dont support updates for their low-end smartphones like samsung never released updates for galaxy y , ace , ace plus etc smartphones .
Also sony is not gonna update tipo to jellybean.

To be frank, Nokia is the best phone hardware maker.... maybe Apple can come second. I dont like the design and general hardware of Samsung and some other Android OEMs. But the fact is that Software is the King when it comes to smartphones. Elop himself know that but i wonder where his ego/arrogancy will take him. I may understand the intergration of Nokia/Here maps in WP OS, but i dont think its worth it. Do these guys (Nokia) do research to listen to the customer. They are not winning on teh high end and they are bleeding on the low end. In Africa where my grand mom knew every phone to be nokia, its now dead, its chines now (TECHNO, GTD ect) and the samsung galaxy mini. Am watching the space. I dont believe that WF OS will catch up even to teh 3rd place. Good luck Nokia
