I had the opportunity to buy the Galaxy Wave S8500 back in 2010. IIRC the Galaxy S was released around the same time. And, no, the S8500 GT was not like a smaller Galaxy S. The design, the back finish were IMHO much more attractive than the S's simpler design language. Howevr, Galaxy S was way ahead of the S8500 GT because of growing popularity and increasing number of apps. Although I liked my Wave more than the Galaxy S I have to admit the S was arguably the most popular Android phone phone back then. Custom ROMs were very essential and attractive stuffs to make those days. People could improve their Galaxy S/other droids as much as they could. With legendary modder's like Gokhamorale, AndreiLux, JK and such the scenery continued to get more in favor with Android which unfortunately could not be the case for the Wave/Bada community. And, no, streaming apps were not a thing those days, it was not even mandatory to have major social platform apps as the number of social media platforms were few (yet powerful) back then. It is the necessity of apps for various reasons that make life easier that made both the Galaxy S and the Android both massive success that made the Wave Series/Bada OS/Proprietory OS's went away.
I had my Wave for 2 years before I finally switched to Galaxy S3. Except for few hiccups (sometimes, when took out from pocket the touch screen would not respond) it was my sweet daily driver for all those days.

I think this was my first smartphone back in the day, and then the S8530 wave II.

I have this phone. It was really bad. No OS updates and no security patches. Ditch it after 2 yrs of using. Other than that, it functions as a phone and texted fine.

Kangal, 31 Oct 2021I had both the Samsung Wave and the Samsung Galaxy S1. T... moreBeautifully put down. I would have loved to see Samsung working on their devices with almost everything they could call as 'their tech'. Even now, Android is the only thing they can't call theirs that they put on their devices. A perfect example of Tizen (erstwhile Bada) working in perfect synchrony with the hardware is the Samsung Galaxy Watch3. Battery life was amazing, it was intuitive and was very fast. Now, with WearOS by Samsung, in partnership with Google, the new Watch4s are in a ditch. But with every software, it takes time to optimize them. And with a few bad pieces of code put in by Google's overpaid techies, it'll take time to hunt them down and make them right. Even Google realized they're not in a position to create software that can rival watchOS, so they roped in Samsung, and I expect to see Tizen-level performance in the Watch5 series.

It's almost 10 years since I bought it at Xmas 2011, I still use my Samsung Wave S8500 for listening radio (Wolfson audio chip) and playing games on it. My 5 years old son, just yesterday, was playing "Spiderman: Total Mayhem" on it:-) Fantastic quality build, design, and lots of free (no ads) games from 2010s.

Only changed twice the battery in it. It's removable btw. No screen protector ever used on it, the Gorilla Glass I is of very high quality. For its time, this phone was far ahead of many models. Bada OS is ok, compared to earlier versions of Android (1.6 Donut, 2.1 Eclair, 2.2 Froyo, 2.3 Gingerbread) is smooth and energy-efficient.

On those days different mobiles had unique designs.
But nowadays all phones are looking almost similar like box.
If i put my phone beside my friends and relatives phone sometime it become hard to know which one is mine until i turn on the screen to know it or flip my phone to see the rearview.
Nowadays mobile phones designs are not good compared to those days.

I had a similar UK version, but it had a slide out mechanical keypad. We were going to develop a video game for it for Samsung but had to abandon project for personal reasons.

They will get fined, that's unquestionable. They'll most likely get themselves permanently banned too as this is far from the first time Huawei is in the spotlight for illegal subsidies.
