03 November 2021
The "guaranteed security updates" period ended in October, but the 3-series is bound for one final goodbye.

android shud be like windows os. so older models can keep up. if they did that they would not be obsolete, counting yearly updates. they could start with pixels then so other companies could follow

I cannot understand why Google allows the pixel 3 series to upgrade to Android 12 without providing at least several months of patches afterwards. There are always issues when doing a version upgrade.

In recent years Apple has been doing a great job in terms of OS updates (this is my experience, at the least). Until recently Android has been a problem even for security updates. Oh well, even now it's a problem as I see that I have two devices where functionality is crippled by no/rogue updates.

By the time a certain smartphone already gained three OS updates, Qualcomm and Mediatek would stop supporting that chipset and put an EOL notice to it. That is why Fairphone, despite the successful attempt, struggled to give the fourth Android 9.0 Pie OS update to their 2015 Fairphone 2 because of the unsupported Snapdragon 801 chipset.

Then came iOS 7 and the device was literally unusable for 6 months until a decent update which broke a lot of things and subsequently iOS 8 solved most of the issues but the device was never the same again. It's laggy and a number of apps just didn't work anymore. Would have preferred to stay on iOS 6 where the updated apps still won't work but at least the device was smoother. It's an expensive mp3 player just after 1 year.

YUKI93, 03 Nov 2021I'm definitely going to miss the Pixel 3. It has the b... moreTotally agree. Great design for a Pixel. It basically looks like a Galaxy S8 from the front but a tad shorter and with a matte back which I prefer. I do miss mine but I've move onto foldable flip phones. I do use it for a day or two every month. Battery does charge slowly which I don't mind. Fast charging harmful.

The Pixel 6 for $599 looks great though. Best looking Pixel since the panda/penguin 2 XL. Not a fan of the size but would love to see it succeed so we can have more $599 flagships. It's the best bargain since the $299 OnePlus One in 2014 and $299 Nexus 5 in 2013. If I didn't prefer a flip phone, I'd get that sorta seafoam Pixel 6 already.

44alexsmith, 03 Nov 2021Android OS Upgrade support is lame. This is an example of ... moreMy iPhone SE from 2016 won't agree. Battery life on iOS15 is atrocious. Like it went from bad on iOS14 to absolutely atrocious on iOS15. Add all the random freezes.

Keep updating your iPhone. Most get another iPhone in less than 2 years so the 5-year updates means diddley squat.

My just black 128GB Pixel 3 still on Pie will likely remain my favorite Pixel of all-time. It is great at all areas except battery life and maybe video recording with the poor audio.

I can't find too many faults with it. I don't really record videos. It feels so comfortable to hold, takes great shots, and is silky smooth. I can't believe people on Reddit thinks it's too old. It would work perfectly fine if I still used it as my daily driver. Felt like yesterday when I got it on May 2, 2019.

No updates for me. A certain update earlier this year caused that EDL bug error.

That's horrible. I mean the iPhone 7 is up to date in terms of updates, and that came out 2 years prior to these phones, while they're only getting 1 more year.

It's a shame we don't have anyone like the old OnePlus that's all for ROMs.

3 years of OS update is STILL too little to offer especially for the "Google phones". I'm an Android user, but not going to buy a flagship again unless 4 yrs of OS update and 5 yrs of security update are offered (starting the launch date). Come on Google, flagship buyers deserve it.

So from next year, this phone is no longer a beta? Took them long enough. Poor generations that were made after this. They will never be the final version.

This is why Apple has long support. They make tons of money with old phones. Other do not.

If you go to Foxconn, probably even Xr/Xs are still being made.

I'm definitely going to miss the Pixel 3. It has the best Pixel design to date with enough bezel just for the front stereo speaker and the front wide+ultrawide camera.
