Google worked on face unlock for the Pixel 6 duo, but it missed the deadline

10 November 2021
This means that face unlock may be enabled in a future Pixel feature drop, once work on the feature is complete.

Google controls 73% of the world's mobile OS and has $2 trillion market cap, yet development of its flagship phones have been plagued by hardware and software issues ever since the first Pixel phone. Really wondering that is because of Google's complacency or sheer incompetence?

It seems Google is struggling with their Mobile Software department. Must get back on track, Google!

Which is worse? Face unlock feature which is not delivered at release or the fingerprint unlock feature which was completed, tested and delivered on release but still having a lot of issues.

So, it looks like face unlock will def make its return on the Pixel 7 series then.

It's weird it doesn't have both face unlock has been a feature on Android for many years now. Personally I'd prefer a fingerprint reader anyways if I had to choose especially in the golden era of wearing masks

I have the Pixel 4 I absolutely love the face unlock. It would be a dream to have a phone that is capable of utilizing face and finger unlocking. For example if for some reason I'm not able to unlock the phone with my face, I could just use the fingerprint sensor.

Google are so bad, that's scary to know they are the know making the Android OS...

Also, not only they didn't learn the lesson with the Pixel 4 and 4XL that having face recognition does NOT mean removing fingerprint scanner, having both simply allow for a wider audience, but if they were any good, they would have also made it so it would be able to handle both at once for increased security.
But also, I wouldn't be surprised if it took too long because they tried another useless thing like the Soli Radar Chip rather than doing simply Structured Light alone who is already good enough...
And on top of putting a useless optical FPS rather than a capacitive on the back or on the side, or better an Ultrasonic (which can go either in-display, on the side and on the back), they failed it with the drained battery issue...

How are people still buying Google's products is beyond me...

Should have had finger print and Face unlock they are Flagship phones?, one day they might get it all right.
