LG Superfan, 14 Nov 2021Tbh I want a useful macro cam I don't care if it'... moreI agree with you. Manufacturers will never give us better cameras even after dropping the 2MP pieces and as most of us do like the Bokeh effect and a proper macro shot, we do need them in every range phones and they must always be of 5MP at least.

I don't think ultra wide lenses are actually needed on a mid range phone but there are many like me who are curious and a little passionate too about different types of snaps, so yeah, there should always be a macro sensor but it must be 5 megapixel minimum.
And about depth, almost everyone who uses camera on smartphones, do take a portrait shot now and then and as Realme has proven that AI can't be a reliable replacement, we do need a depth sensor for Bokeh effect on photos as well as in videos.

The macro sensor can be embedded inside an ultrawide camera, so there is no need to have a separate macro camera. As for the 3D ToF sensor, I still can't see any reason to have it. Maybe it sounds useful for portrait photography, but I'd rather have a natural bokeh from the camera lens itself rather than a fake bokeh from a 3D ToF sensor.

Separate 2MP macro lense is most useless thing ever. Its really there just because OEMs have stocks of those sensors and need to get rid off it.
Every test you make with every possible phone, show that main camera have better macro quality as it have almost the same focus distance(about 1-2cm) but better resolution and dynamic range. You can even crop it to 2mp and still have better quality...
As for Depth sensor... truth is that most of phones dont use it at all.... you can test it by yourself just by doing few shoots with and without covering depth sensor... end result of images will be the same...
It remind me situation with Huawei P9 where BW sensor was there and if you cover it it will show message that its covered but I added red colored tape on that sensor so its blurred red mess but camera still detect light so it didnt show warning and... images where the same without any red blur on them, proving that second camera was not used to enhance quality.

Tbh I want a useful macro cam I don't care if it's a dedicated one or Ultrawide with AF, if it's dedicated one it should be 8MP 2x telemacro with AF
As for depth sensor IMO they should use 5MP B/W sensors, it will have better low light performance, cause I don't think any manufacturer will give you better main camera if they removed depth and macro cameras
As for flagship it should be best atleast;
GN1 for main
GN5 for Ultra wide
IMX 586 3x Telephoto
ToF sensor

Looks like most people that vote on these polls around here seem to only use the main camera for point and shoot.
Why spend money on flagships then? They mostly focus on many cameras features...

Gimmicky sensors with no real use, OEMs should start removing them and instead add 2/3x zoom sensors.

Depth cameras are useless (Unless they are the 3D TOF/Lidar). Calculating depth can be done using AI or the other lenses on the phone (using the ultrawide or telephoto cameras)

putting macro and depth lenses on flagship phones **cough cough oneplus** should be illegal
