Microsoft and Qualcomm reportedly have an exclusivity contract for Windows on ARM that’s expiring soon

23 November 2021
This is apparently the reason that adoption has been slow for other ARM chipmakers.

Must be the shittiest exclusivity deal in the world. it achieved nothing for both the companies. now there are so far behind apple and won't ever be able to catch up.

So this is why it's taking so long for Windows trully shine on ARM. Apple is already on 3rd gen development of their chips and Windows on ARM has been behind the competition since 2016. Jeez Microsoft you trully are your own worst enemy.

Apple M series chips once they can run Windows is gonna beat anything they have I bet, would be funny if Apple sold their M chips to Microsoft lol

Anyway, I hope Qualcomm, Samsung, Mediatek, Huawei, Intel, AMD all get into this so that hopefully we customers get better chips due to competition.

anyway, I'd blame Microsoft for not having a propper laptop with ARM. It doesn't look like Microsoft is serious about having windows on ARM platform.
May be now, they will get a little serious, seeing how well Apple is doing.

They've had exclusivity and they wasted all that on a single tablet? I guess it takes a lot of manpower having people spam the internet of the greatness of their processors. Maybe focus on actually making and selling things instead?

Over the years, Qualcomm keep trying to beat the A Series chip and failed. M series chip pull ahead even more.

Samsung goes hand in hand with Qualcomm in terms of performance.

As of now, no chip design can exceed Apple's performance per watt.

So the best performance for ARM windows, is still buying a M1 Macbook and run VM.

Qualcomm laptop chips were complete rubbish and failed to run Windows ARM properly. The exclusivity deal was a farce and Microsoft should've opened up to HiSilicon, Samsung and MediaTek making chips for Windows ARM as well.

In fact, I wonder if Qualcomm uses the same architecture as Apple M1 with RAM unified memory on board, we will have the equivalent of CPU perf / power consumption. I was always a PC die-hard but must admit ARM because all of a sudden interesting.

Ahha! Good riddance. Hope it doesn't get renewed since having competition is a good thing: monopolies suck!

Maybe the compute chips will have current gen cores after they get some competition.
