I guess they are trying to get rid of their old stocks for oled (without hrr) and their 4k mah batteries, haha. Wow, and for that price??. Vivo and oppo tried and tested formula. Selling it overprice for the first month, and then gradually slashing it until it meets the price of the competitor. They have been doing since the very start, thats the reason why they are still make more money than Xiaomi, even that Xiaomi has more model sold in more countries than BBK.

You can easily have one model alone being responsible for 20, 40 , or even 50% of the sales like the example given (Samsung ).

You have phone A that costs $200. Then you trade one camera, add 250mAh and call phone B that costs $225. Then you trade CPU, call it phone C to sell for $245. This is so waste of resources. Having many devices that are not even 10% different when comparedmeach other.

This is why those sub-$300 phones from Oppo/Vivo are way worse than Samsung.

Anonymous, 23 Nov 2021I do not remember exactly if it was Galaxy A50 or A51 4G. ... moreNo, you don't have a good grasp of why they are applying that strategy. If out of possible 50 phone models in the $100-250 range, BBK has only 2 phone models, they'd have 4% percent chances of making a sale. Then, compare that with when it has 7 phones in that price range: the percentage sharply climbs to 14.

That's why the Chinese phone makers have subrands [of subrands]. Banking on sales volume rather than profit margin, because they know that in the end, the more they sale, the more those low profit/sale adds up. If BBK (Vivo, Oppo, 1+, Realme and Iqoo) has 20 phones out of available 50, common sense says that it's odds of landing a customer shot up. That's the simple logic you don't seem to get. And whether you or I like it or not, it's highly effective. It's very evident in their successes so much that you need no expert to tell you that.

But wait, did you really believe that you know better? That they'd be applying that strategy if it wasn't working out well for them? They aren't Apple: they neither have the loyal customer base nor unique OS to differentiate themselves with and lock users in with. They can't succeed with few models in the cutthroat and uber-competitive android market. They (BBK, Xiaomi etc) knew that having arrived late, that that's how they could compete with the established OEMs. HTC and LG failed to realize and/or adjust to that reality and suffered it. Sony is suffering. Samsung, despite being always bigger than those 3 reacted better to the threat. That's why it's releasing many models. If you think that Samsung would have still maintained number 1 position in sale volume by sticking to the old way, think again. It might even lose that position soon, but at least it has put up a good fight so far. Not having subrands is part of what are working against it, because, at the end of the day, all those models are bearing the Samsung name, so not the same thing.

          Good phone.

Single model was responsible for 20% of entire Samsung sales (over 50 million units sold this device).
It was the best selling android powered device of the year.

Even if Oppo and Vivo had like 10 phones each, sales would still be same. They are very popular in India and Southeast Asia.

When you have so many devices, they start to overlap each other. It is waste of resources to have like 10 phones between $100-250 for example.

Meanwhile bbk/ Vivo has combined market share of the number 1 and sometimes number 2 selling smartphone in the world

Seems like this strategy is effective for them

What a waste to have put a water drop notch on the screen of this smartphone, a punch would have been better or at worst a thin border. But that notch is really horrible and disgusting

Years ago Samsung had two Ss, one Note, four As and five Js.
Sales were same as now they have way more than 30.

Motorola was much better and more popular when they had 3-4 phones per year.

Anonymous, 23 Nov 2021Did not vivo announce another phone hours ago? Why these ... moreBecause the budget and mid range is where their profits come from, flagships not so much, although the biggest margins are there. Since budget and mid range are cheaper, their margins are small, in order for them to make a profit, they need to sell millions. Unlike Apple, which is on top of the food chain, their flagships sell millions already = big profit.
