Those entry gaming laptop are around $600 to $700 for years, since Sandy Bridge era (2nd gen) to Tiger lake era (11th gen) never saw huge price changes.

And Alderlake already Shipped to Oems its just matter of days before they reach stores (jan to March 2022) probably Ces 2022 Jan 5 many Oems will anounce them.

      Gpu
-M1 pro has either 7 or 8 cores
-M1 max has either 14 to 32 cores

      Cpu
M1 pro has 4 powerfull cores
M1 max has 6 to 8 powerfull Cores.

Hence M1 max is much Powerfull soc compare to M1 max,.

Comparable perfomance of M1 pro you can get it for much cheaper in windows ecosystem.

How does it compare with Apple M1. Does it's performance come close?

Comparing to that MSI laptop I posted earlier selling for USD3300, I don't feel the 16" M1 Max MBP is over priced at all. The screen and resolution already worth more than USD200 IMO. So if I have USD3500 for a performance laptop now, why choose the MSI? Unless I like windows OS or have software that runs only on windows like SolidWorks. Coming back to the news here, the SD chip runs ARM version of windows. Does this SolidWorks comes in ARM version.?

Don't have to build the memory that way?? Like as if you know any better? Hahahahahaha
Precisely it is built that way that's why the performance is so good!

Go educate yourself and stop making a fool for everyone to see. A good start I can recommend is to look at AMD cpus. They have both unified memory and non-unified memory class of cpus. Why did they do that? What's the advantage for UMA & NUMA architecture? AMD is coming out with their 3d stack cache cpus, rumoured to be in the Zen4 chips. Those will be something very interesting. Watch for it!

Hemedans, 03 Dec 2021M1 max max Machine start at $3500 up to $6000 Rtx 3070 l... moreNope. Not what I've seen. For both CPU and graphics to match the M1 Max performance, currently you are looking at USD3500 entry point. Those come with OLED 4K screens, 1TB ssd, good quality keyboard with backlit, DDR5 64GB ram, RTX3070 (non maxQ), huge sensitive track pad, match for match with a 14" M1 Max laptop.

You want high performance, good quality, the price is in that range. No free lunch out there. Point me a model and that's USD1500 and equal or better than the M1 Max, there's non currently. All using older Tiger Lake at best and the hi end ones using i9 11980HK is very expensive! This MSI laptop doesn't even have OLED and 4K screen for that price! Just a FHD but super hi refresh rate, not very useful for daily tasks besides gaming. Comes with DDR4 32GB ram. And MSI doesn't tell you which variant of the RTX3080 they put in, could very well be a Max-Q version.

              https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GE76-Raider-i9-11980HK-11UH-053/dp/B095C23PMJ/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=i9+11900hk&qid=1638535546&sr=8-1

Alder Lake i7 12700H & i9 12900HK are not even launch yet, no price, no power measurement, no nothing, so no need to talk about them and I'm sure they don't come cheap just like the MSI above. Maybe Jan next yr we'll see the launch, but until then, the money you can buy a performance laptop now is just that.

You just can't generalize. Not every workload will benefit the same way from their sneaky anti consumer soc-design. You don't have to build it that way to increase memory bandwith. Furthermore, just imagine what AMD could do with that amount of L1 and L2 cache.

Definetely you can get that perfomance for half or just 1/3 of Mac Pro price.

Integrated graphics for Intel Xe is about on par with mobile GTX1050, and the 1050 has a performance of about 1.9TFLOPs. AMD 5900HX Vega 8 has a graphics performance of about 1.1TFLOPs. The entry level M1 has a graphics performance of about 2.6TFLOPs.

Intel has laid out plans to improve Xe from 96EU to 128EU. How much performance gain is still yet unknown, but I doubt it will cross 5TFLOPs to be considered decent mid range.

RAM capacity would not have mattered much in the raw export tests because they are not even intense enough to getting 32GB of RAM all filled up. This is different from video export, images are processed in serial order and offloaded from RAM one by one as they are compressed and saved in a folder, so technically you only need an amount of RAM enough to handle a single image to export them without getting bottlenecked by RAM. A 200MB of GFX100 RAF file wouldn't occupy 32GB no matter what you do with it.

Performance of M1 Max GPU is roughly equivalent to RTX 3070 to 3080 mobile depending on the workload, except in games where Mac is getting hamstrung by the lack of developer support, all while consuming half to one third of the power. iGPU inside 15-35W intel TL is somewhat comparable to M1 while Ryzen 5000 falls further behind these two.

This new cpu has 14c20T running at base 2.9GHz. The M1 Max has 10c no threads and base at 2GHz.

Cinebench R20 & R23 were used to test cpu speed only. Single core, the Alder Lake is 77% faster. Multi core, the Alder Lake smokes the M1 Max w/o contest.

                              A few things to note:
                              1) The specs differences. In terms of cores and threads, Alder has more. Speed wise Alder is also clocked much faster.

                              2) The Alder cpu is 35W - 45W variant. M1 Max is 60W including graphics. If you pair the Alder with a mobile RTX 3070 for same graphics performance, the power shoots up big time.

                              3) The price is unknown for this i7 Alder. There's also a i9 12900HK. From past records, these H & HK hi end chips don't come cheap. And paired with hi end graphics like the nVidia xx70 & xx80, the price is on pare with apple offerings. DPreview did a recent comparison with current available laptops, so the pricing for laptops in that performance league is going to be in that range.

Don't expect such hi end laptops that can outdo the mac to be sold at half the price! It's not realistic at all. And for the same kind of performance or better, the power consumption & battery life is another consideration given the price you pay for being portable.

Now we just have to wait for hi end Alder Lake laptops paired with RTX3070 or 3080 to see how's the battery life and power consumption.

Apple with its M1 processor has shown that how Intel has cheated its customers by artificially controlling the performance of its processors. It serves Intel well that it fell behind and companies like Nvidia went ahead. If Windows fails to give more importance to ARM architecture then even Windows will fall away.

Z, 02 Dec 2021It's funny how everyone became content creators once t... moreNahh, the true funny thing is that the most expensive Windows laptop machines today are kneeling down on the performance of the M1 Max in the vast majority of programs that are natively supported on both platforms.

These developments into making WoA better are solely caused by the major move made by Apple to switch to ARM with their MacBooks, and the M1 just caused all of these chipmakers to react accordingly. Why did Intel, AMD and Qualcomm suddenly decided to start working on ARM-based SoCs as soon as possible, subconsciously all around the same time and mostly right after Apple announced the M1 last year??

x86 will not run away, but ARM will surely be the future of consumer-grade computing machines because it's a much newer, more powerful, and more energy efficient system altogether in comparison to the older architechture.
It's really good that Apple is doing something like this in the computer space. If not for the M1, we'd still be buying thousand dollar laptops that use 200W+ power to match the performance of a MacBook M1 running at 50W.
