Can I just buy an iPhone for 199$ nothave it activated or pay for 3g and use it on wifi like an iPod touch?
Essentially it would b a touch with a camera

OK. Everybody got some thinking about price for iPh 3G. What about this?!...iPhone 3G Serbia 600 euros for 8GB and 16GB for 750 euros!!
Don't make conclusions in front. At the moment there is a lot of dust in the air. Just be patient. This is only marketing trick.

Iphone is sure great device, but it has many minor underdones.

Nokia will release 5800 Xpressmusic this year, Samsung with SGH-i900 Omnia this June and Sony Ericsson with Xperia X1.
Apple iPhone just got nice user interface but not the best in all feature. Compare iPhone 3G with other phone before u decided to buy it. Be a smart people.

bob, 13 Jun 2008i had used htc wizard and ty tv for years now and had a cha... moresame here ! HTC user for years, but so fed up with crash, soft reet, hard reset and restore regularly if tryinh a soft that ends up to be non-compatible with another ..
iPhone is for me !

I work for a mobile company in South Africa, so at the moment we have yet to see the the 1st iPhone.
I cannot believe that all the comments on GSM are so angry. It it just a phone... at some point all of you must realise that the use of a phone as well as the decision to buy it, is solely based on preference and opinion.
Personally, here in Africa (where we are all gagging to get a look at the infamous iphone)many of my clients refuse to renew their contracts because they are waiting for it... at the end of the day even here in the ass end of the world... this phone is secong rate.

i had used htc wizard and ty tv for years now and had a chance to play extensively with my friends iphone so i believe i do know what i talking about. yes, there a lot more customization software and warez for pocket pc, yes on a paper you can get space shuttle specs but in real life; all pocket pc i had tend to crash at least once a day and need permanent rebooting, interfaces are pretty but cluttered and not even terribly useful(yes i tried SPB kits etc) it always thinking about something and lethargic, camera mega pixels are higher but photos are crap anyway, it is not suitable for normal not geeky person even with some degree of expertise. if you compare any pocket pc to car it is pile of nice components in kit form which will and have required tinkling all the time just to keep it going. i do not want a project i want a device to work fast reliable and being easy to use even for my wife. Add on top of it unlimited data and you just cant have it better. what a use of 3g communicator without unlimited data? it like have a car but not being able to afford any petrol. i had google maps for years on my htc but every time i want to look at it i charged for data 2-3 gbp a min. it adds up folks to much more than apple wants. i'm out to line up in apple store on 11.

Okay, I've read the whole thing and yes I work as a helpdeskagent for Base (Belgium - Europe). We had heard that Mobistar was "giving away" Iphones and we wondered why it was for sooo cheap! Now everything is cleared and I must stay that it's a total RIP-OFF! Mobistar is one of the expensive operators here in Belgium. Apparently they will come up with a very expensive subscriptionfee and people will just fall for the fact that they will be buying a cheap Iphone. Talking about Iphone, I use a HTC TyTn II and I did had the choice to buy an Iphone. When I got Iphone in my hands for the first time, (because one of my collegues had bought it) I knew it wasn't that great! Okay it has touchscreen and stuff but everybody who has a bit knowledge about telecommunication would instantly see that it's a "TOY". If you want a good phone and a mediaplayer, PLEASE BUY IT SEPERATELY!!! I'm happy with my HTC, it's a good phone and damn it also has mediafunctions on it but I also have an Ipod (30GB) and I use that for media.
Advantages? Your batteries are not dead after a couple of hours, You can phone and watch movies at the same time and if one of them gets broke, IT COSTS YOU LESS TO REPLACE IT!

Sonyericsson XPERIA X1 and Nokia N96 are better buy including few Samsung phone i don't understand why iphone is so expensive when it is internally build by SAMSUNG along with same TI OMAP CPU used in many low/mid/high end Nokia.

Yikes! This thing is more expensive than even n96 which is coming out in a few weeks.
A keypad hasnt even been added for sms lovers, camera hasnt been upgraded. Apart from the addition of 3g, it looks like the only thing that has been updated is the software. Why such a huge difference in pricing between the original iphone and the 3g iphone?

Never forget to add also tax to all costs listed for US prices! Initially the tax is around 7 to 12 percent in the US.

No its not going to be like that... price of 8gb model will be exactly same as with contract even less... so look for around 130 150 and max 200 euros...
Apple plan is to take over whole phone business in whole world, then release a new phone with extra features every year, and also earn on apps etc...
So what are we looking now? Other manufacturers with better or same models for same price... Also who needs a 500 euro phone, when you can get laptop for 300 euro which is 100 times better and faster!
Don't be pesimistic gsmarena I hate that!
