Anonymous, 05 Dec 2021Yes, nice features to have but smarthphone companies just c... moreBecause of people like Anonymous "vGZ" who say stuffs like :

"No Headphone jack = Yes to Buy

I don't want ugly holes in my phones"

    It justifies removing stuffs.
Basically, EVERY industries have diversity, most do cover niches, and the smartphone one used to also do it, but because of how toxic the community is, with the :
"It doesn't follow the trend and/or doesn't match my own tastes, so it shouldn't exist at all, even if many wants it, because it is useless for ME" mindset.
Basically, you have people looking at news article and the reactions in the comments, there is also investors who does that and they dictate what next the brand should do.

But what's happen when every single thing is received negatively and that you can't tell anymore the difference between constructive criticisms/real concern and haters just hating?
You stop answering demand, and you just throw the same product again and again, since they don't have the choice to buy it anyway, who care what complaint they have...

So yeah, people like that killed the smartphone industry, that's why, while on any other markets, you'd never have a feature such as the punch hole or teardrop notch, which is awful, invading the market with 95% of the devices having it, but you'd find diversity, a bit of everything for everyone, even if some designs/features are more common than others.

I can't find a single market that have so little diversity, everything from clothing, cars, laptops, desktops, smartwatches, down to toothbrushes and nailclippers who exist in a variety of shapes, sizes and with tons of different features.
Some say that "there isn't enough demand", "it is niche" or stuff like that, despite all markets covering niches, there are even brands that exist exclusively to do niches products among an already niche market, literally niche's niche.
Like overhead panel reproduction of passenger aircraft for hardcore flightsim, having an expensive joystick such as the Warthog Hotas and a paid addon on a flightsim is already niche enough, or ultra expensive hydraulic handbrakes for hardcore racim sim, realistic race car sim are already a niche when there are games like NFS, having a racing wheel is already niche as most just play with a controller, despite this, there are direct drive units with massive motor and loadcell brakes pedals which are even more niches, and already you have brands like Fantec who are dedicated only for that, and even them aren't as niche as full hydraulic handbrakes, yet some brands exist and still make profits only for such level of niche products.
And most of the time they have everything to make from scratch.

So when we are talking about using an existing phone and just make some sub-variants with different feature and designs, and yet people talking about "niche", this is above stupid...

Anonymous, 05 Dec 2021No Headphone jack = Yes to Buy I don't want ugly ho... moreFunny part is, I wouldn't be surprised if you are complaining about bezels, pop-up camera and such, but really love punch holes.
      Same with the USB-C.
If you don't want an "ugly hole" on your phone, you can buy a cheap Jack cover :
      https://www.amazon.com/s?k=3.5mm+jack+cover

It is cheap and works well, but you "not liking holes" doesn't justify to remove the Jack from ALL phones, especially those that, even without a Jack, you still won't buy.

Anonymous, 05 Dec 2021It's funny how it's never possible to please smar... moreExcept that you are wrong :
1: Give me a phone matching said specification, and I'll be totally pleased, in fact, just upgrade my Poco F2 Pro so the Macro is upgraded to 12Mp and can also do true Portrait, and replace the 2Mp depth sensor by a 2x or 3x Telephoto, and I'll love it as a picture phone.
The only other change I would like would be to swap the awful optical UD FPS to a good Supersonic one.

2: There IS a big market for compact phones, you only base your experience on either the iPhone 12 Mini and 13 Mini and ultra compromise phones, the iPhone 12 mini and 13 mini have an awful price to feature ratio compared to the others, and most of the compact Android smartphones available have awful battery life AND are always low/entry level phones.
The FACT is that the regular iPhone X (5.8"), iPhone 11 (6.1"), iPhone 11 Pro (5,8"), iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro (6,1") are already compact compared to Android phones being nowaday in an average around 6.8" for high end devices.
The iPhone SE is also super popular and IS a compact phone.

So does the Samsung Galaxy S20, Galaxy S21 at 6.2" (which might be the upper limit of what one could consider compact) and the base S10 at 6.1".
The Google Pixel 5 at 6", the Pixel 4a at 5.81", Asus Zenfone 8 at 5.9", Sony Xperia 10 Mk3, Xperia 10 Mk2 and Xperia 10 Mk3 Lite at 6", all of those are example of compact smartphones that didn't had sell issues.

The issue is people like you that make it sound like it need to sold 5 bazillions units to be a success, while in reality even a low amount of product sold is still a success if there are profits or if it is within expected numbers.
And consider this have been said by someone who prefer larger phones.

3: Pop-up camera DID NOT experience ANY reliability issues, if anything, they more than proved to be a really sturdy, tough, resilient, durable and long-lasting component, there are almost no reports of pop up failing, the only places you find the words "pop-up" and "issues/reliable/unreliable/durability, etc" associated are in comments either accusing (yours) or defending (mine) the pop-up, but almost no proper reports are to be found, and those who are, in number, are PERFECTLY within ANY product's normal number of defects, miss-uses, accidents, etc.
There are MUCH MORE reports of display, battery, electronic components in general failing than pop up even when compared to any equivalently sold number of units.
95% of the accusations on the pop-up are pure BS with no fundaments, in fact they are the opposite of the reality.
The Vivo Nex A and Nex S who both had the first pop-up were released in June 2018, over 3 years ago, most people change their phones within 2 years and the rest within 3 years, yet since over 3 years, there is no flood of comments about pop up failing on OEMs forums, it has PROVEN to be more than durable enough, even surviving harsh conditions.
In fact, most pop up are still in excellent conditions and show little to no signs of wear or damages.

4: The underdisplay camera is a stupid concept to begin with, notch is akin to having a TV with a part of its display, as big as your remote, removed, so you can "fit the remote when not in use", and punch hole is as stupid except that it is on a hole you insert the remote into, and it prevents you from having Wi-Fi (equivalent of loosing 3D face recognition sensors that the punch hole killed) and have to drill into your wall so the remote fit in (equivalent of killing the proximity and ambient light sensors with sub-performing, underdisplay ones).
The underdisplay camera is the equivalent of trying to make a hunting hide, but so the animals don't see you, you don't put any opening, and you have to squint really hard to try and see through the wood.

It cost a lot, it is sold at a loss for the moment, and the tech required years of R&D to still yield an awful result while something like a pop-up work perfectly first try, and when it will be mass-produced on multiple devices per OEMs, its true price will show up and everyone will cry that phones are expensive.
It isn't as if years of R&D are just gonna be forgotten, there is a need to compensate the money that has been spent, and the construction method is complex, for a while, punch hole did cost more than pop-up camera (yes, it ISN'T expensive), the underdisplay camera is much worse, as you don't just want to reroute pixel's cable around a hole, you want to make pixels and cables as thin as possible while being still able to display an image...

It will invade the market like punch hole did, and once people will realize it is awful, it will be too late to cry.
This thing is a privacy nightmare, you might know the saying "No security is better than a false sense of security", here it is the same, not seeing a camera that can see you is the worse for privacy as it both let people having behaviors they would never have in front of a camera, and normalize having hidden camera in our consumer products.
Add to that the totally false rumor that "it can't see if the display is lit", which is complete BS, or that "there is a camera notification when in use" that is EASY to hack, in fact things like the camera app and popular apps/social media doesn't trigger it, or the "permissions" that many apps did also get through, and you get the perfect recipe for a disaster.

And there are MUCH BETTER solution to get THE SAME RESULT (no visible camera, no external moving parts, full display) that have no cost, quality, complexity or privacy issues, but they fall silent because this shitty UDC gimmick obsess everybody.
Meanwhile, there are MANY solutions to implement what is called "Disappearing cameras" :
                        * https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-under-display-camera-phone-1188611/
                        * https://www.gsmarena.com/googles_first_foldable_could_have_a_disappearing_underdisplay_camera-news-49223.php

Funny part is, the UDC might actually be the tech that will have durability issues while the pop up, even in 5 years, will still work well.
But a tech that had no issues was hated to extinction while a tech that has only drawbacks and not a single real positive advantage that something else can't replicate is praised as the new god and ultimate goal of all lifeforms...

Not with those shitty specs. No flagship chipset no periscope no buy. If Honor wants to compete, they better put top scpecs and periscope for the price their offers, otherwise it is a dead brand.

I remember how many users on this site CRIED for a "compact" Android phone, and when a manufacturer released one, it failed miserably aka sold poorly. Yet certain users on GSMArena would have you believe that there's a HUGEEE market for small phones lmfao!
I do agree that pop-up cameras were the best solution for "privacy" and a full-screen experience, but they proved to be rather unreliable and it made phones heavy and bulky.
What I don't get, why do you hate under-display cameras so much? (ignoring the obvious bad quality photos)

from mrwhosetheboss review, Honor50 has software bug. So next successor honor60 might be buggy.

the camera bump of honor60 still looks ugly and has unnecessary design.
