Looks like it's using Sony's IMX766 sensor.

    The point is :
The underdisplay camera CAN SEE THROUGH A LIT DISPLAY.
What do we see in this video?
A camera under the display taking a video through a display that is lit (in white + with green lines).
Since when a screen recording show the backed out area as white?
It appears white because it was white, there was even a white label with text reading "Starting activity: com.goodfix.fingerprint.setting/.MainActivity" showing up and which didn't impair at all the camera view.

Both videos you showed were just a screen capture of the UI, not a video of a screen recorded by another cam, so they showed the blacked out section of the display as white surrounded by green lines.

The underdisplay camera, as many liked to point it out, is not designed the same way as the underdisplay FPS, and is MADE to look at a DISTANCE, while the fingerprint scanner camera is optimized for close distance.
The way the pixels are arranged in the underdisplay camera make it totally able to see when the display is lit, it will give a "bright curtain/fence" effect, but still with the background being visible.
AND, in the original video, the display was actually a FULL WHITE :

AnonD-909757, 08 Dec 2021"Properly", that's the key word, right here.... moreI tested that feature back when the news came out on my Mi 9T. Although not shown invthe screenshot, the area where the sensor lied was blacked out, which totally makes sense since for testing purpose the sensor needed to see through the display rather than reading a fingerprint. Under display cameras cannot capture the outside world in a meaningful way when pixels are lit, I hope my experience helps you. Thanks for reading.

Richard, 08 Dec 2021In the past we have retractable selfie cam, never make it b... more*Retractable selfie camera were super popular and heavily demanded, even phones like the Poco F2 Pro who wasn't even sold in the USA made it to the top 10 of the most popular devices and most user satisfaction in multiple polls.

*Flip or non-flip, Asus isn't a popular smartphone brand outside of enthusiasts, in fact, many DO like the Zenfone BECAUSE of the flip camera.

*Those Samsung phones were released almost a decade ago where phones were usually not expensive AND were utterly bad a photography (people didn't associate smartphones with pictures back then), and people at that time didn't complain about space, so they rather simply buy a compact camera on top of a smartphone as it wasn't expensive nor an issue and gave you better results.
Also, I am sure it was a not well known phone that wasn't available in most stores, making most people simply totally not aware of its existence.

Something being "not popular" is NOT a ground for ditching it totally, in basically all markets, non-popular things are common.

B.S. Most people DOESN'T care about moving parts, only fearmongers like you say stuffs like that, always the same type of people, always those who think that because a product doesn't fit THEIR tastes/needs it shouldn't exist even if millions want or even need it.
Moving parts are NOT an issue, and in fact are often what is the most reliable, and in 2013 people were still in a crushing majority preferring mechanical to electronic who was deemed to be really unreliable, ask any car mechanic, and for a while it was true, when a car had an issue, 9 times out of 10 you could be sure it was electronic, the same was true for basically everything, and today mechanical parts haven't magically become fragile and electronic the most reliable thing ever.
Your head is just filled with marketing BS if you think "people don't want moving parts".

THIS is the lesson learned, the other lesson that people like you haven't learned yet is that trying to bring down rare tech that will NEVER cause you to be unable to buy anything else (even if there were 500 models of phones with "moving parts", you would have still been EASILY able to choose whatever else you wanted), will ONLY make the market WORSE.

With all the people like you, constantly hating stuffs they can EASILY IGNORE, and for NO REASONS, while most of the time saying BS MYTHS, yes, indeed, it won't ever become mainstream, despite it probably being one of the best tech we could get camera wise on a smartphone.

MUIE USR, 08 Dec 2021Samsung did this in 2013Really some explain to me why when you compare the hardware the two phones look completely different

Samsung has never in their lives done this implementation

If Oppo can give some kind of optical zoom mechanism for the main camera sensor, that would be wicked. It's about time we see a spiritual successor to Samsung's Galaxy K zoom.

You don't need a 108Mp all sharp picture to violate privacy and get precious data about someone.
Just look at typical security camera footage.
Or any scientific data, and how they are extremely bad quality for many, and yet they can determine tons of valuable information from what most would see only a blurry mess.
It will still take more than enough details with the display turned ON.
Even the UDC of the FPS who isn't at all made to see at a distance can already do it through a lit display.

That's not a myth, just physics. An optical FPS only needs to take a photo of your fingerprint using reflected lights, whereas a UDC must take in light from the surrounding environment through a lens opening in order to capture the scene. They are both sensors sitting under a display panel, but quite obviously they don't work in exactly the same way.
A UDC won't be able to capture the scene properly with all the lights from pixels right above it shining through its lens and randomly scattering underneath the display surface when it's already having a hard time handling incoming lights.

So this is the reason they're not using periscope lens so they can cut down on the number of lens. This is a basically a wide + telephoto lens. But I wonder what the quality is like?

In the past we have retractable selfie cam, never make it beyond much. Flip camera module by Asus..never make it beyond much. I think Galaxy phone also have one in the past with a retractable zoom lens.. never make it beyond much. I guess as much as consumable base at which most phone user fall under this category.. We want a phone with less movable parts. Lesson learn from past will drive us forwards. Its good as technology innovation or showcases but i doubt it will make it big beyond as compared to a standard brick phone
