Google Pixel 6 Pro may still get Face Unlock support with a future software update

15 December 2021
The vanilla model likely won't receive it, though.

Yes, Google, please add face recognition again!
Hand desinfectant, working hands, skin diseases (as aforementioned), the absolutely necessary glass screen protector etc etc..
Not to mention the need for gloves at least 3 months a year.
Fingerprint behind the screen is a horrible idea.

This phone really isn't what they said it would be and having owned 2 previous Pixel phones, I was finally looking forward to face recognition since I have psoriasis on my hands and my fingerprints on any given day don't work to unlock my phone. I'm so disappointed in this phone and when my lease is up, I may very well buy an iPhone which is what I should have purchased to begin with.

please don't, this thing has so many bugs, it will unlock with your cat's face

PixelFan, 15 Dec 2021True. I still think that Tensor is a step in the right dir... moreTensor is bad for the rest of us if Google diverges from AOSP and makes gcam Tensor only.

Google needs to put face recognition on the Pixel 6 because the fingerprint sensor is worthless!

PixelFan, 15 Dec 2021True. I still think that Tensor is a step in the right dir... moreYes for sure. But snapdragon will hold its value as it caters from basic to high end smartphones. Tensor is for high end smartphones only.

Corporates poking fun at weird practices only to come full circle and adopt it themselves is a tale as old as time.

Samsung with the charging bricks and literally every flagship with their 3.5 mm jacks and now google with this. Weird how fast corporates turn face but I don't blame them. At the end of the day, they're organisations with a focus on profit.

That doesn't negate them from critisism that this is extremely non-consumer friendly

We love this idea of bringing the face lock technique.

I still think that Tensor is a step in the right direction.

Maybe in 2-3 generations, we'd see it outclass its competition in the Android space.

Useless insecure face unlock. It doesn't matter how much Tensor they throw at it, it's just 2D authentication.
